Hello,
I am trying to add my newest pics/videos to my iPhoto Library, and i seem to be having some issues. It goes as follows:

I have a couple of videos that were shot with my Canon digital camera in vertical, rather than landscape mode.
I used Quicktime to rotate the movies, and saved the new rotated file.
I dragged the file into iPhoto, but it's thumbnail appears to be damaged.
I'll post a picture of what it looks like.

What do I do in order to fix the thumbnail?

workaround

Hello penter,

I had the same problem.
This is the way i work around it. This workaround is long and requires a lot of manual work. But for the time beeing it is the only way i found.

First open the movie and export the movie as picture. This results in a .pct file. Open de .pct file in Photoshop (Preview wouldn't open the files). resize the image (mine where 480 x 640 and i resized them to 270 x 360).
Save the file as .jpg.

Locate the thumbnail in your library :
Select iPhoto Library , CTRL-click and choose 'show packet contents'.
Locate the broken thumb in 'Data/[YEAR]/[DATE OF IMPORT]/'
Rename your new created thumb to the exact name the thumb has.
Overwrite the old file.

When iPhoto is open just select and deselect the movie and the correct thumb shows up.

Long workaround but at least it works.

I hope this gets fixed in an upcomming iPhoto update.

Does anybody have an easier sollution?

Thanks & regards,

Jo

oh, ok,
i get you. pretty much you're just saying to replace the broken thumb with any other image that i can create, which, in this case, is the proper video frame?

Indeed, that is what i meant.
In the mean time i did a rebuild of the small thumbnails in iPhoto. The images i created are gone but the thumbnail displays fine.
I think the thumbnails are moved to cache.
Only the large image (video frame) is still present and is the mangled image again. It does only show when i display the images on the biggest size (not fullscreen).
I could try a complete rebuild of the iPhoto database but my guess is that it would be messed up all over again.
If I find some time i'll do some tests on a new iPhoto library.

Did you find an easier solution?

actually i havent had time to even try what you told me, i've just been so busy with college starting now. i'll get back to you if i find any other solutions.
thank you for the help!! =)

ok, so i finally did it!
it worked. the thumbs didn't change at first. i had to select and deselect them, resize them, but after a few seconds the new ones popped up.

Thank you :)
