Rather this is not unexpected when you see "Chicago" in the headline.

Reagan introduced us to this level of civil asset forfeiture during his "War on Drugs" escalation. Chicago is hardly the paragon of this abuse. It happens frequently all over the country. Your money/property is guilty until proven innocent, and when some people have their stuff seized, they never get it back because of the hurdles that much be leapt to prove its innocence.

If you have more than a thousand dollars in cash on you, never admit to a police officer that you do, because the officer will take all your money (only drug dealers and criminals carry that kind of cash) and you will never see it again, unless you can afford a primo lawyer. They will not even charge you with anything, just force you to prove that your stuff is not ill-gotten gains. We need serious reform in this area.

Completely agree with all this. Asset forfeiture is at an all time high and it is not good.

Sadly the liberals are pushing to extend "guilty until proven innocent" into other aspects of our lives.
