    One of mine is the song "Fairytale Of New York" by Kirsty McColl and Shane McGowan.

    This is an unusual Christmas song, eschewing anything to do with schmaltz, or saccharine sentimentality, and instead giving us the bitter sweet integrity of art and the authentic echo of many nuanced stories - not all of which come with a happy ending.
