    Is it just me, or is that table hard to follow?

    That's a twaping

    Soundly might I add.

    The table is confusing, it states in one place that the CB run on the Mac is the shipping version, and in another place it states that it's the beta. I'm not sure wich to trust.

    One hopes that this is the shippingCB and that the partially optimized beta would put out better numbers on the G5.
    They also state that they are awaiting better compiler utilites to output better G5 code. One must assume that CB for the Mac is not a Project Builder based application, or certainly they would have the more optimized code already from the developer builds of Panther and Xcode. Or are they prohibited from releasing production code from the developer builds?

    On a sort of side note:

    Here's hoping that the "one last thing" on Thursday's Apple event will be "BTW, we have 3Ghz systems in production and they'll be shipping by the end of December". Yea, this is only 2 months after shipping the 2Ghz systems, but it'll be 6 months after the one year promise.

    I'm trying to remember when Steve stated that there would be 3Ghz systems "within one year". I think it was the end of June, which puts us at 4 months in to the timeframe, and there are 8 months left before the promised deadline. 8 months is a short time for two speed jumps (2.x and then 3.0). A full year is a long time to hold a CPU at 2Ghz. Remember the agony of the 1Ghz stall with MOT?

    The question is this:
    will Apple piss off the early adopters by announcing a 3Ghz system now;
    will they ship an interim speed bump in the next two or three months
    will they wait til closer to June (perhaps January)and release the 3Ghz machines?

    Why do I think it's possible that Apple would be 50% ahead of schedule? Because they've done it with Panther and iTMS-Windows, both are apparently shipping in about half the time they were promised. December would he the 50% ahead of schedule point for 3Ghz.

    Panther and itms for windows is Apple Software. 3Ghz G5 depends on IBM hardware and thats a whole different thing. January Macworld ship in february is probably the best bet for speed bump dual 2.2-2.5,dual 2 and a single 1.8?

    But yea, interesting numbers.

    now lets load up with max RAM and give the G5s a real Gfx card and see what happens - but yeah - in default stock config this is interesting.

    oh - how much does that dell cost BTW?
