Was cleaning my Imac screen after getting wax onto it (what a moron!) and was using my phones flashlight to see how it was going when I noticed these vertical lines/columns running along my screen? I'm hoping its adhesive for the screen and that this is normal but started to worry that this is an indication I have pressed too hard when cleaning the screen!?

I was wondering if anyone else can see these vertical strips when the Imac is off and a light is shined onto it? I hope I haven't damaged it already!

Thanks!

Do you have the nano texture display?

There are no vertical lines on the screen that I can see.
Shining a point light on the screen from a phone flashlight reflects a sort of colored interference pattern, but that pattern moves with the light.
You may be seeing residue from whatever you cleaned it with. Try dampen a soft cloth with plain water only, and gently stroke the screen.
The screen has an antireflective coating which is quite easy to damage. Apple recommends cleaning with water only, although does also indicate disinfecting with 70% isopropyl alcohol is OK.

A photo would help.

Hey guys! Thank you for replying so quickly

I cleaned the screen using Eco Moist with the Microfibre towel it comes with. Admittedly I did clean it several times as I was pranging about the cheap candle wax.

I have attached an image of the screen I took with the flash from my Iphone (I tweaked to exaggerate the issue slightly). As you can see these vertical columns run along the whole of the screen. Im driving myself crazy with this hahah

I have these same lines on my 2019 27" iMac. It came that way and it bugs me a little but I've gotten used to them. I only notice them when moving a window left or right across the screen. Never see them on a static screen or when playing back videos or gaming.
