Clips instead of whole Movie to iMovie

Instead of importing a whole movie, is there a way I can gather a certain clip from a movie? Is there a program that does this?

What are you importing from and which version of iMovie are you using? If importing from a camcorder, you should be able to fast forward to the bit that you want, click Import, then stop when you have enough.
