Watching the live feed on Fox as Comey is doing his routine.
So far I am moderately impressed. He is sticking to his guns, keeping to the "classified monicker" where appropriate, and trying it seems to clearly answer.
Not impressed at all with Sen. Feinstein.

Do like his "clarification" on how FISA collected data is utilized.

In reference to the late Congressional notification, I did like Comey's response that he did not publicly announce this rather it was a closed letter to the Congressional leaders from whence it was "leaked". The look Sen. Feinstein tried to play was not innocence.

Why is it that the members of the Judiciary Committee (many of them) cannot seem to grasp the difference between classified and public investigative details.

Armchair quarterbacking at its finest

    More to come.....

Watching Hawaii's Senator speak ... they need a new one. Sen. Hirono has a serious fixation on HRC. Basing this on her rewording of the current and past investigations and the "gushing" she entails in her "concern" of the effect on the HRC campaign.

Leahy ... Nice job of incorrectly mixing campaign rhetoric, personal thought, and factual info to portray a totally incorrect account of actual events and intent of those events. Portrayals like this actually impeded progress and negatively color factual information people should have. Then he tries to add in a nice little line ab out law enforcement interaction which Comey nicely handled stating most of the FBI interaction is with citizens, not immigrants. Leahy immediately dropped the subject and moved on to another.

Sen. Whitehouse - wow. Sounds remarked like a lawyer restating the previously covered Comey comments slightly altered to invoke both an opinion that there is something wrong with them and elicit further clarification in an effort to correct the altered verbiage. Interrogation 101.
Not bad but totally wasted in my opinion on someone like Comey.

He did explain it. He is required to do so since he had said in one congress forum that the case was closed. This new information required him to reopen the investigation. That required him to notify congress.
He communicated this directly to the intelligence committee chairs. Someone in Congress (a republican member of the intelligence committee no doubt) leaked it out to the press.

He covered it in the initial grilling by Feinstein. It was a mix of apparent metadata content, potential impact, timeframe to review, past actions, and a decision to either conceal till completed review or disclose to Congressional leaders.
He chose a letter to leaders.

Well duh. We all know he told congress even though it's DOJ policy NOT to do that right before an election.

Schiff said the “real choice” Comey faced was between abiding by DOJ policy to not discuss investigations around an election or to ignore it.

So why did he do it ? THAT question has not been answered..

    Hirono is back
Asking questions she should know the answers (like who investigates threats to Federal Judges - US Marshall's office) or details on refugee's under terrorist investigations.
Definitely playing to the cameras and MSM. Someone give her an outrigger.

Listening, so far it's good stuff. I liked when he said that his only mistake with the FBI was to accept the Director position :)

Yes he did, extensively. And what he said makes sense.

Seemed to me he did while answering Feinstein. Or at least portrayed his mindset while deciding to write the letter. Remember, Comey did not discuss it. He wrote a private confidential letter intended only for Congressional leaders.

It's not in the interest of this country to hide how it is governed behind a veil of secrecy.

Either way the man was going to get skewered. If he keeps his mouth shut and HRC wins the right is going to lose their minds, the voters were denied the opportunity to know what the hell they were voting for. If he opens his mouth and Trump wins, he harpooned her run. The only thing that would have worked for anyone is he opened his mouth and HRC won. Then this wouldn't even be a story.

    Governed yes. Investigations no.
Lawful investigations only on conclusion of the investigation.

Walking in the Blumenthal minefield. Tip-Toe through the Tulips ;)
Nicely played linking expertise and impression between Comey, Sessions, and Blumenthal.

    Why what?
    Governing transparency should be best.
Investigations should not be transparent while the investigation is underway unless we are looking to try our cases in the court of public opinion. Keep in mind, the hearing phase is post investigative phase. That (hearing) should be transparent as long as public opinion does not sway the jury. Emotional vs. Factual.

Wonder why the panel never raised the authority on what Comey can / cannot decide. Example: not to prosecute HRC.
    Interesting.

Comey didn't make that decision. FBI can only refer to the DOJ a recommendation. He recommended against it, but the final decision to not prosecute was the DOJ's (a.k.a. Bill's tarmac buddy, Loretta).

Let's just acknowledge, that Comey ****** Hillary for President as Director of the FBI and as much as that might thrill some of you, holding a negative press conference just before the election for a non-event, regarding Hillary, while not saying a peep about Trump Russian ties, a serious real event until after the election gave Trump totally preferential treatment. His inconsistent policy, for whatever reason you can imagine, single handedly changed the outcome of a presidential election and handed the country a giant mess.
