thought this would be a nice read for the comic geeks here, and fans of superheroes in general. even though i don't really read comics myself, i was surprised at the many jewish origins of many of the heroes.

That article gives interesting explanations for the large number of Jewish comic book writers: that it was partly luck, but that it was a looked-down-upon business so nobody minded immigrants taking part, and that people who tried not to broadcast their ethnic identity had an affinity for characters with secret identities. It also made sense because heroes are a strong draw for the powerless, which includes both children, minorities, and the underclass.
