one word, CORRUPTion

All I can say is corrupt, that is why I went with the iPhone. Good intentions and honest helpful people. FU PALM!

And why are you so dead against the carriers?

Apple, Google and AT&T are about the same size in market capitalization.

Apple and Google are individually twice as big as Verizon.

Who said I was against carriers? I said I was against AT&T's abuse of their customers. Why don't you take a look below for a better example since all of what iphone customers have gone through already doesn't seem to phase you.

According to a leaked AT&T memo, the company is preparing to force all new smartphone contract to feature a data plan, which usually almost doubles the monthly price. Here's how AT&T is presenting it internally:

Why we are making this change?
We want our customers to have the best possible experience with their Smartphones. A predictable bill is a key factor in customer satisfaction, so effective September 6, 2009 Smartphone customers will need to subscribe to a data plan, as the vast majority of customers already do. Data plans let customers fully utilize their device, without the worry of bill shock.

How we will ensure an extraordinary customer experience?
The sales representative is the customer’s expert resource in helping select the right device for their needs. When a customer does not want a data plan, we will position other devices in our industry leading portfolio for the customer to choose from, as many devices do not require a data plan.

So like I said in the beginning . .

I personally think Apple should be allowed to Block what they want. It's their OS, Phone etc.
Same with Google. Although, I see Google as more 'open source' whereas Apple... No. Not at all!

While I partly agree, the phone is their design, but is owned by me. and I should be allowed to decide if I want to use an app that 'mimics' functionality already on the phone or for any other reason.

I think that they should only be blocking apps that could be dangerous to the integrity of the phone, or the network, much beyond that it's at the users discretion. Just my opinion though.

Nothing wrong with that --- you can always buy a standalone PDA.

First off I love the duplicate features that apple complains about:

Voice mail -- Search for Youmail app. It duplicates visual voicemail and does transcriptions (similar to google voice)

SMS--> Many apps exists to send free sms.

Skype-> Make calls over wifi

I can't see why this app shouldn't be able to work via 3g and data as it forewards the call. (based on friiends at google)

Seriously I would not of gotten an iPhone if I knew about this.

Unless I'm missing something I can't see why Google or Apple wouldn't want apps such as VoIP services. The service providers must be playing games.

That's what I think. I hate the carriers and their business practices.

And what business practices are that --- the carriers are much much much much smaller than Apple and Google.

Do you think that Google (being twice as big as Verizon) is right to "fool" the FCC into writing a bunch of "open" policies for the 700 MHz spectrum auction and Google had no intention to win the auction itself?

Apple and Google are richer than God and are trying to fool all you people into the public debate so that they can bash much smaller carriers, much smaller media content owners, much smaller book publisher, much smaller newspapers.

The whole thing is stupid. Apple should just allow every app into the app store.

Put them in two sections:

1) "Approved and certified by Apple"
2) "Unapproved applications - use at your own risk"

Considering every other smart phone and computer ever made has had 100% of the software in category #2, it really wouldn't be too much of a reach.

Because Apple wants it that way? So they want to limit options to their customers?

Yes, restricting choice, whether we like it or not, has always been Apple's way of contolling the user experience in the way that Apple feels is best for the customer. It has always been Apple's philosophy and most likely always will be. All in all all, I think the good points significantly outweigh the bad points.
