I have had numerous email exchanges with my bank about their web site and have had no success at getting them to understand the following...

I am using Safari and Firefox on Panther to view the site. The Business section displays fine but the Personal site seems to be hiding all the modern stylesheets and serves up a page that looks like it was meant for Netscape 4 .

http://www.commbank.com.au/personal/ (hides stylesheet)

http://business.commbank.com.au/ (displays fine, slight menu issues with Firefox)

I'd be interested to know what other users have found with this web site, and whether or not I am seeing things. I have tested several browsers on OSX and they all show the same thing.

Maybe if there are enough responses I can point the Bank to this thread .

Sorry mate. Cant assist you there...I cant even get on cos they have stuffed up my details and now I ve got to run through hoops to prove my identity just so I can access netbank. No problems for 5 years and and then they change the system and up the fees and charges. I will not be with them for long.

Has anyone had success using Safari with St George Bank?

Online Banking

Firstly, St. George Bank works fine with Safari.

Secondly, Westpac Bank works fine with Safari.

Thirdly, ANZ Bank works fine with Safari (I use it every day).

Fourthly, Commonwealth Bank worked fine with Safari about 3 weeks ago when I used it. I have a Client who uses it almost every day, so I will check (Online Banking). I get the same problem as you describe today, so it is probably a Java conflict.

The majority of problems are caused by Java. If you have installed the last Security Update you may on occasion need to reinstall Java. This has happened a number of times in the past and is an ongoing and known problem. From my personal experience, run all the Software Updaters, then reinstall Java (latest download is available at www.apple.com), run Disk Utility to reset Disk Permissions (make sure it is on) on Startup Disk, Restart and it should all work again.

Ask the Bank to check their version of Java. Unfortuantely I do not use Tiger at the moment so I cannot tell you if the same problem exists in that System.

Just to clarify, the problems I am seeing are not related to NetBank, they are with the main bank web site (that anyone can view, not just bank clients).

Just use Explorer I just checked and it works fine. It's a shame, but it's not like the solution isn't there I guess - bloody microsoft engineering ways to make life difficult and then also being the only one with the solution like a drug dealer perhaps?. I use internet banking on the Commonwealth site everyday with Safari, but I rarely venture out of the main site with all your account details etc. If you are having trouble getting to this I find the URL works best as some of the links don't seem to work in Safari -

https://www1.netbank.commbank.com.au/netbank/bankmain.htm

I realise it works in IE 5.2 but given that Microsoft don't even support it anymore it's fair to say it's an outdated browser.

The Bank say their site is certified for use with Netscape and IE, yet on OSX Netscape has the same problems as Safari and Firefox.

I use Netbank everyday too with no problems. However, I am surprised that the Bank can't make a compliant web site without relying on browser-detecting that serves up the wrong alternate stylesheets.

Thanks for the replies. I'll give that Java thing a go. Really though, how hard is it for the Aussie banks to get their act together? It's not like they are short of money for development...record profits and all.

holy cow!!

that personal site is b0rk3d something chronic!
http://www.commbank.com.au/personal/

the other Business site displayed fine for me... the menu's seemed all okay as well.

on Panther and Safari i did once have an issue logging into Netbank... i forget what it was but it displayed some dodgy message after logging in, so instead i just closed the window instead of using Netbank. i emailed them about that and they said it was a known issue on Panther/Safari. seems they've got a habbit of doing these things...
