My girlfriend has a 32GB 3GS on the ~£35 a month tariff, her 2 years is up soon, she can upgrade from the 18th August.

She wants an iPhone 4 (yes I know the 5 will be out in September, but she doesn't care).

I checked the O2 site and they want £243 for a 32GB iPhone 4 on a 2 year, £37 a month tariff. This is obviously the cost if you're coming in cold to buy one, but is it the same price as she would have to pay to upgrade?

It'll be cheaper since you'll be upgrading. And even if she wants an iPhone 4 she should just wait till the iPhone 5 as then iPhone 4 prices will come down quite a decent amount.

Nope, just checked with O2 - a 32GB iPhone 4 is £243.99 on a £37 a month, 2 year contract whether you're a new customer or an existing one upgrading.

Just try and hassle with them and see what you can get. I know someone on O2 who got it a little cheaper by saying he would move to another network if they weren't going to change their price.
