I was thinking about purchasing it but i'm not sure if it the app puts little controls on your menu bar.

No controls in the menu, but it does allow for universal keyboard shortcuts to change/pause the song or search your library from any program.

nope but you can control iTunes with your keyboard which is better and easier IMO. you can even launch iTunes by pressing the key you set to play/pause. for menu bar controls have a look here.
