I saw the Raleigh, Durham post but figured we needed a crabtree specific one. Is anyone planning on waiting outside the crabtree valley apple store and if so...how does it work being inside a mall?

I waited for about 6 hours in line at the iPhone 3G launch day at Crabtree.

They basically have you line up against the railings over-looking the first floor to not block other shoppers.

I have my iPhone reserved.... so I am hoping it will not take 6 hours

I'm curious as to how it's gonna work with the mall opening and stuff. I know you can get in before all the stores open but will there be a line outside the mall before they let you in?

The mall will open the doors at 5:30 that morning, so I plan to be there around that time. I have no desire to camp out or anything the night before. Gotta get some decent sleep. :)

As for lining up before they open the doors, from what I've heard, mall security is not going to allow that. If they see you, they'll usually ask you to leave the premises.

I was there for the iPhone 3GS and iPad launch and the actual mall is open very early (for the oldies that like to do their morning walk in a nice, safe environment..I'm guessing).
I arrived at the parking deck around 6-6:30 in the morning and there were just a few people there before me when i got to the apple store.
They should have two separate lines for reservations and walk-ins.

I have a reservation but I'm going to show up a little early to make sure i can get through the activation process before the system inevitably crashes..

Wow okay I feel a lot better now. I'll be there at 5:30 then. My hope is that the Apple store will actually have a small number of white iPhones....since they haven't actually said that they won't be selling them on launch day. If not....then I'll be there for the experience. I've only waited in line for the Leopard release and that was at the Southpark store in Charlotte. THAT line was crazy...

    Hi everyone,
I'm going to be visiting NC from Massachusetts on launch day, so I made the (wise) decision to reserve at this location... Not knowing the mall at all, which parking deck do you guys recommend? I saw one labeled blue and one labeled gold (I think). Any suggestions?

I normally go to the parking deck out front by glenwood where the ruby Tuesdays is. That's the closest entrance to the apple store i believe.

If they do happen to have a few white phones available at the store....it sure would be tempting...I didn't and don't even want a white iPhone...but the limited quantities would be very tempting...especially evince nobody else would really have one. We'll see....I don't evrn like the way the white looks...but the resale value on them is certainly higher than the black...

Yeah I was thinking about parking at the main entrance off of glenwood too....although the food court entrance does look a little closer but it's way more convenient for me to park off of glenwood.

an apple employee told me today that the mall main doors opens at around 4am. i asked the guest service at the mall and they told me that it opens at 530am. they also said they should have some for people who didn't pre-order. trust whoever you want.

I've got my phone reserved at the Apple Store at Crabtree as well. I'd suggest parking in the parking garage by the food court. In fact, I have a spot I always park in up there since I'm there so much, haha. You'll basically just have to walk in at the food court, past all the food vendors to the middle where the elevator is, and the Apple Store will be right there on the right side.

Last time I was there I got there for the 3G launch and we lined up in front of Apple, towards the elevators, then horse-shoed back around past the Apple store on the opposite side. I don't recall when I got there for the 3G launch, but I was at least a good 50-60 people back in the line already.

Being that I have nothing better to do that morning, I'll probably try to get there between 6-7 and hope they have a reservations line so we don't have to wait too long for everyone else.

Mall staff told me that their doors will open at 5:30, so that's the time that I'd trust. But even if they opened at 4, there's no way I'm getting there that early.

Expect e-mail early next week from Apple with more details

I too have an iPhone reserved at the Crabtree Apple store. In confirming my reservation yesterday on the phone, I was told to expect an e-mail early next week from Apple with directions on how the reservations will be handled, when to arrive, etc. Advice I was given a few days earlier also indicated that it would be better to arrive earlier in the morning than later. They also indicated that the mall opened at 5:00 a.m. for the people who walk the mall, and the store will open at 7:00 a.m. If/when I get an e-mail, I'll post the particulars.

what does everyone think about the white iPhones? Do you think there is a small chance that there will be some available at launch since they haven't stated they won't be available to buy in store on launch day? Could they have not been available for pre order because there was no way they could meet demand?

Don't think we'll know the answer to that until Thursday morning...

COMPLETELY off topic, but does anyone know the number to call to report an outage with my time Warner cable Internet? It's been hours now and its beginning to cause me problems taking care of work stuff. WTF time warner!?

I highly doubt the white iPhones will be sold on launch day. It would get sort of messy with everyone who had reservations for black iPhones, but instead want a white one.

I mainly hope they will have some white iPhones on display, so if I really like the white phone better, I can just wait for it to become available later in the summer.

@irrational While I really hope they have some white ones....even if they don't I agree with you and hope they have some on display so that we can see for ourselves what they look like in person.

e-mail from Apple: Reminder: Pick up your reserved iPhone 4 on June 24.

I did receive the e-mail from Apple today as I indicated in my last post. I was a bit disappointed in the contents, but at least it's the 2nd e-mail confirming my reservation.

This e-mail again implies that reserved phones will be held until close of business on Thursday (I think that would be 9:30 p.m.). Perhaps the disclaimer at the end implies that just pre-authorizing (through the AT&T Web site) doesn't mean you'll get a phone, but having a "reservation" does. I'm still not clear what happens if they don't get enough phones to satisfy all of the "reservations."

    Here's the e-mail:

Don't forget to pick up your iPhone 4.
This Thursday starting at 7:00 a.m.

When you come in to pick up your iPhone 4, you'll be directed to a line for those with reservations. We'll have Specialists ready to transfer your contacts, set up email, and help you get apps so your iPhone is just the way you like it. We look forward to seeing you at the store.

    Sincerely,
    The Apple Retail Store team

    Pickup Date and Time
    June 24 starting at 7:00 a.m.
    Pickup Location
    Apple Store, Crabtree Valley Mall
Your reservation will be held until close of business on June 24.
    Please note:
Some customers received a confirmation email showing an incorrect price. We apologize for any difficulties you may have encountered. If you're currently an AT&T customer, you can confirm your pricing online.

Review now (link to AT&T site).

Be sure to bring these items with you:
    • A valid, government-issued photo ID
    • Your Social Security number
    • A debit or credit card
    • New to AT&T? Bring your account number from your current carrier.

    Reserved Items
    1 iPhone 4 32 GB - Black

Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Your reservation is valid for pickup only at the Apple Retail Store that you selected.

If you do not collect your selected item(s) by the designated date and time, your reservation will be canceled.

All sales are subject to the Apple Retail Store Purchase Policies.

Apple reserves the right to refuse, limit, or cancel a reservation if Apple determines that a customer has provided misleading or fraudulent information and/or abused or disrupted the reservation system.

Has anyone called Crabtree in regard to white phones? If they're absolutely not going to have them, then I'll cancel my current res and not go. If it's up in the air, I may chance the morning.

Either way, I don't want to make them answer another phone call if someone's already asked.

Does anyone know if Crabtree is going to be only accepting reservations from 7 - 10 or if they will take both lines at one time?

My confirmation email said that there would be a separate line for reservations, so I assume that they'll be taking both lines at once.

The press release from Apple just released would indicate that the white phone will not be available until the second half of July. See http://www.macrumors.com/ and http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/06/23iphonestatement.html

I'm glad Apple finally came through and gave us some information on the white ones. That's the one I want and if it means waiting another two or three weeks until mid July...I'll do it.

Same here. I'm pretty dead set on the white one, so I'm going to go cancel my reservation right now. Unless there's a way to transfer it to someone else?
