Hi guys,

I just dropped the back of my iPhone 8 while I was getting out of the car. Didn't realize I put it on my lap.

I could technically put a case on it since it functions perfectly fine but it bothers me and I'm thinking of putting it for sale. But I'm just wondering if it's worth my money+time.

How much do you guys think I can sell a cracked back iPhone 8?

(I'm in Canada btw, and I believe on sites like Kijiji iPhone 8 are selling for $650-$700 CAD as a reference).

TIA! :D

I suppose as long as you disclose it you might be able to sell it, but not for the normal retail value. Would you buy a phone with a cracked case?

I'm sure I have no problem selling it, and of course I will disclose it and show pics.

I am just wondering how much $ I can get for it.

50% of the market value? or less?

Yeah, I was thinking that but I think if I use a skin, the skin won't stay flush with the crack parts (little bumps). Was thinking of selling to buy an iPhone X.

How much would you guys pay for a cracked back glass iPhone 8??

Honestly, iPhone 8s don't have much value at this point since they are so close to being replaced. I sold a mint 8 for $525 USD and most of the offers I was getting were between $400-500 range and that was for a flawless 8. A cracked one wouldn't get more than $300 USD if you were luck, IMO.

Honestly? $0. But that's because I'd be similar to you where I would rather just sell it and get a different phone. Haha. I would maybe just try searching ebay and seeing what others are going for with similar issues even if not identical damage.

Thanks for all the replies!

I too think it's pretty crazy that iPhone holds its value despite cracked and all that. It's weird also with the iPhone 8 and X that the back glass costs more than the LCD screen to repair lol.

I think $350 might be a good starting price - people can just cover it with a case if they want.

I will use the money to buy an i-X

It’s generally a replacement if the back panel breaks because all the internal components are glued on top of the glass back.

This is not correct. The glass on the back can be replaced, just takes heat and some work. The components are still inside the phone.

Yes, I’m saying generally Apple just replaces the device if the back panel is broken.

To make money. But no, you were wrong. That is the only reason apple makes you buy a new one to make you spend a ton to buy a new phone. The glass can be replaced on iPhone 8 and higher.

@akash.nu wasn't wrong if the Glass backing is broken by Apple replacing it. And no, Apple doesn’t make you buy a new phone to make you ‘spend more money’, they simply don’t replace the glass because it’s labor-intensive and it’s much easier for them to either issue a replacement or new phone altogether. I’m sure it would take them a significant amount of time to even separate the Glass from the chassis without trying to break the components as you can see in that video yourself you posted. The Concept of not inconveniencing the customer by making them wait versus with an in depth repair like that versus issuing a new or replacement device is much quicker to the customer.

He was wrong. He said all the components are glued on the back glass and it can't be replaced. Below is what he said.

"It’s generally a replacement if the back panel breaks because all the internal components are glued on top of the glass back."

It is a money maker for Apple to sell you $700 replacement phone just to fix the back glass. That glass doesn't cost more than $100 bucks for Apple. They rather sell you a new/refurb device.

If you want to know how much you'll get for it, check resale sites like Swappa or eBay. No one can tell you what they will pay for it and you seem to be asking here instead of doing research.

Plus time to actually remove the damn thing. Plus the safety hazards of trying to remove a shattered piece of razor thin glass. If it's so easy and cheap, why don't you start up a business doing it?

Besides, you have an option to get AppleCare+. You also have the option of a case and or not replacing the damaged back.

So many options!
