I do like the dark mode in certain situations, but currently it just seems a mess and out of all the apps mail has to be the worst with dark mode on. Peoples signatures look terrible if they have used any colours, plus any pictures, company logos etc are always based for a white backgrounds. So bad...

Is there anyway to have dark mode app specific?

Uncheck "Use dark backgrounds for messages" in Mail>Viewing Preferences.

I agree dark mode needs some work though. For example, the iTunes search field:

And fonts definitely look better with Light mode.

Thanks I’ll check out. To be honest I was quite happy with old dark mode, why did they remove the half and half version?

If you are using spaces and toggle Dark Mode on one that does not have Messages, it does not seem to get "the Message" and leaves its entry field in the wrong state.

I wouldn't say its a mess, more it just needs some more work. I'm sure in a few patches it will be really cleaned up and perfect.

I just wish more websites had a dark mode to make night time viewing easier.

you could check out "dark mode for safari" (it's on the appstore)...

Dark mode is great, but as it stands now, it's too contrasted, the "dark" areas seems too dark (almost black which is silly) as opposed to the white text, and the Mojave font smoothing issues are more apparent. Which is why I've gone back to Light mode for now, which surprisingly seems now easier on the eyes.

For me, shades of dark grays would seem more appropriate.

Again, I do like it, but it's just that something feels off.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like it.

I find it a bit jarring and distracting, which is the opposite of what it should be.

i've been using dark mode since the first mojave beta, and (mostly) like it; mail too some getting used to. but, with that safari app, it feels like... too much. the rest is cool (& yes, could use some fine-tuning)...

I do think there is hope for it. I was curious and excited to have a refresh to the UI, so I hope it will get the attention it deserves.

I have not upgraded to Mojave yet, as I have three things waiting for compatibility. It is amusing to hear all this hoopla about dark mode as I recall the old VT100 and early PCs were by default in 'dark mode' with a bright text and darker background. It was really a big to a lot of folks when you could have a white background and black text as if it were on paper... ;-)

what are those 'three things'? (just curious)...
