Date & Time Preference crashes

Hello, I have a rather irritating problem that I hope someone can assist me with.

Recently my date&time stopped displaying the "day of week".... so instead of "Thurs 12:00am" it shows "5 12:00am"

But everytime I try going into Date & time via System Preferences or single-click the time and going to Date & time preferences, it crashes

I've created a test account and there was no problem, so it's something with my current account.

I've tried removing com.apple.systempreferences.plist but the problem still persist.

I'm assuming other prefs panes work ok?

You can try moving these prefs to the desktop (rather than delete them if they don't solve the issue):

Try this one first:
com.apple.menuextra.clock.plist

Then maybe:
com.apple.systemuiserver.plist


Maybe one of those is bad?

This bit suggests to me that it has something to do with your localization settings; either a custom date & time format that breaks it somehow, or some similar thing with language settings. Can think you think of anything along those lines that might be changed from default?

Tired both, no luck. Do I need to reboot (I didn't)?

I don't recall doing anything special with the formatting, and too bad I can't check it right now... but my format has always been "Thurs 12:00AM".
I noticed that in Finder, all my folders/files is now formatted something like this "1, 2009 9 27 22:23"
 
OK, definitely sounds like the date&time format got broken somehow. I would attempt to determine where that's stored (don't know offhand, sorry) and either remove or manually fix that file.
 
got it fixed.

went to Sys Pref > Language & Text > Format > and chose Canada.

Date&Time Preference works now too.

its strange cuz i didn't even touch the formatting.

THANK YOU for posting back with your fix. I was having the exact same problem and this fixed it for me as well.

I did recently delete my ".GlobalPreferences.plist" (while trying to fix something else recently), and I think that may be what screwed up the Language & Text format, in case that sheds any light for anyone else.
