Amazon today is discounting Apple's 256GB Wi-Fi 10.2-inch iPad to $399.00, down from $479.00. This sale is only available in Silver, and as of writing it has a delivery estimate of about one week.

At an $80 discount, this is a new all-time low price on this version of the 2021 iPad. Only Amazon has this steep of a markdown, and it's the only configuration of the iPad that's seeing a record low price at this time.

Although not a record low price, the 64GB Wi-Fi iPad is on sale for $299.00, down from $329.00, and it's available in both colors. For even more iPad deals, head to our full Best Deals guide for iPad.

They mention the $299 price for the 64GB model as being a “sale”. In the USA, Walmart sells it for $299 every day of the year. I bet other countries have similar prices at retail stores.

It’s going to be updated in a month so these older models will be selling for MUCH cheaper if you wait.

Since people tend to keep their iPads for more than 3-4 years, it makes zero sense to buy a non-USB-C iPad at this very moment.

Thanks for pointing this out. Here is a link to the Walmart listing. I always check Walmart, Best Buy, Sam's Club, and Costco pricing since they usually are the same or better than the MacRumors "deals".

Given the major upcoming refresh, this is a Do Not Buy.
Refresh around the corner. Only buy a current iPad and iPad Pro if you need it.
Even then, you can still get this 9th gen one. However, wait to see what the 10th gen offers first. It's not like they're going to raise the price of the 9th gen again. If I didn't already have the 64 GB one, I would've been ecstatic to get a 256 GB for as low as something like $375 (as opposed to an extra +$150)

For me, *I* would. I still carry my iPod Touch 5, which also uses 8-pin (which admittedly, I use as a glorified flashlight, but it is very slim and light to also just carry around)

I guess it's relative. The original MSRP was $330. However it did finally go down to $300 around (IIRC) a few weeks back?

This 9th gen iPad is $60 less than edu pricing available to everyone everyday from Apple Store. Given 10th gen is expected to have A14/4GB and 10.5-inch display, I'd say it's well worth the wait.

Recent rumors suggest that the refreshed budget iPad won't come out this year. Anyway, this one has the absolutely atrocious air gap between the panel and the display glass, so I personally wouldn't buy this even if the refresh would still take 2 years to come out.

Since 2017, the $329 iPad gets refreshed like clockwork each year. We even have the model numbers already: A2757 and A2761.

The 2019 refresh took 1.5 years, so not exactly like clockwork. Plus it only got some minor spec bumps since 2017. It's reasonable to assume that this major redesign could take a bit longer.

What's the deal with the air gap again? IIRC, it makes it less responsive vs. iPads without this. Any other benefits? One pro is it makes it easier to repair, although I'd argue this does make it cheaper to just replace.
