Septuagenarian Nancy Pelosi--who believes that she is the person to lead House Democrats into the future--is apoplectic over this unprecedented challenge to her rule. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/...o-challenge-pelosi-for-minority-leader-231573
Sounds good, Pelosi needs to go she is too polarizing. Gerrymandering has led to a lot of the Democrat's losses, but it doesn't explain all of it the leadership bears some of the responsibility.
Gerrymandering can explain losses in the House but not the Senate or Oval Office. Those losses are to blame on bought and paid for hacks like Pelosi coronating Clinton despite the fact that everyone with a brain was telling the democrats she was a garbage candidate.
Agreed, they need to get more of a bench to draw from in future presidential elections. This last time we had the choice between two candidates that were both too old for the job.
Nancy Pelosi will keep her job as the top Democrat on the House. Why? Because she's a prodigious fundraiser. Keeping her caucus re-elected term after term is what really counts. Not youth. And not attracting new voters. Yep, about half the country thinks that.
Do you know what apoplectic means? From your link: Among members of congress, "vote counting" is a basic, essential skill. If Pelosi says she has the support of two thirds of the caucus, she is quite likely stating the facts-- based on personal conversations with each and every member of the caucus. Yes members can lie to your face, but quite often they have a tell. It's not like polling, where everything is based on random samples and a certain percentage can be relied on to lie for the sake of it. "PRESS 4 for GARY JOHNSON" is a whole lot easier than deceiving a fellow congresswoman-- or one of her allies. If she loses, so be it. I wouldn't worry about it.
Can someone tell me why Nancy Pelosi should keep her job? What has she done for democrats in the last 4-6 years?
She doesn't have to prove why she should keep the job, Tim Ryan has to convince other House members why he should get it. If he does get the Minority Leader job, it'd be funny, since the Speaker is Paul Ryan. There could be lots of confusion about which Ryan said what!
She's lead her caucus to ignominious defeat in four straight elections. Most organizations would have rejected such leadership failure long ago. However, like I said she raises obscene amounts of money.
That's the ticket right there. She's a corporatist with a friendly face on social issues. The democrats are dead to me until they realize that throwing out social issue bones to the public while supporting lockstep the corporate agenda is a dead end for them.
Nancy Pelosi came to Washington in 1987. Since then she has amassed a colossal fortune, some estimates of her wealth are as high as $124 million dollars. Pretty good for government work.
