On UK radio, for decades we have had a show that focuses on songs that you couldn't live without were you stranded on a desert Island....

Now these doesn't have to necessarily have to be your favourite ever, diversity is sometimes the key.... and as such my list demonstrates that.... it is difficult to narrow it down to 10... but imagine if your were stuck on an island, would you want to listen to the same band/type of music?? I wouldn't...

I would like to know what peoples choices are... either specific songs or albums...

Title, Artists, song/ or album please....

    10 only now....!!

    Mine are....

    1. New Adventures In Hi-Fi, R.E.M. (album)

    Wow, this is hard.
    In no particular order:

The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)
The BeeGees - Permanent Record (Greatest Hits)
    Newsboys - Shine:The Hits
    Rolling Stones - 40 Licks
Gladys Knight & the Pips - All Time Greatest Hits
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon & Garfunkel
Areosmith - O Yeah: Ultimate Hits
    Bookends - Simon & Garfunkel
Frank Sinatra - Greatest Hits (Reprise)
    Queen - Greatest Hits

This was hard, and I am way to schitzo to choose only 10 cd's, but if I had to, this would be the list I would come up with currently. It would be way easier to pick 30 or 40, but who wants that...

By the way, I am not old. Actually, I am only 20, but, I tend to like old music. The sinatra cd is the 60's stuff. (Strangers in the night, Somethin' Stupid, ect...) The Newsboys are the newest music on the list, but I really like it. (1994?-2000)

You know, Desert Island Discs are kind of irrelevant now that we have iPods... and I'm sure you don't want me to list my Desert Island (20GB) iPod :D

But the Desert Island Discs is still a fun idea. So mine are:

    1. Keith Jarrett: Live At The Blue Note Volume 2
    2. Paul Grabowsky: Three
    3. Miles Davis: Live Around The World
    4. Miles Davis: Kind Of Blue
    5. Bach/Tatiana Nikolayeva: Art of Fugue
    6. Edgar Meyer: Bach Cello Suites
    7. Beatles: White Album
    8. Rolling Stones: Between The Buttons
    9. Nina Simone: Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood
    10. Radiohead: Amnesiac

    hmmmmm this is challenging:

Something hard you can sing to. Or at least try:
    1 - 'Emotions' Mariah Carey

    Something to keep me awake:
2 - 'The way you like it' Adema

Something fun - that you can sing to:
    3 - 'Toxicity' SoaD

    Something to dance to
    4 - 'Sandstorm' (artist?)

Something else hard to try to sing to. Kinda funny too:
    5 - 'Babalu' Yma Sumac
    (^^^ amazing self-taught singer ^^^)

Something fun which would be fun to try to memorize:
6 - 'Here we go' Grits

Something interesting with my fav rapper (the only one I like)
and someone else I like a lot:
7 - 'Get your freak on remix' Missy Elliot feat. Nelly Furtado

    Something FUN to sing to:
8 - 'La Vie Boheme' Rent (the play)

Just a good song that I enjoy:
    9 - 'Sleepwalking' Blindside

I love to sing, so another challenging song to sing.... I can't think
of one, so maybe y'all can help me out. What is a song that is
challenging to sing, and also is a good song?

    I accidentally my whole location.
A song that you hate, not just dislike, not 'I'm just going to change the station', something that will make your ears explode if you hear it again.

    There's you a challenge.[IMG]

It doesn't matter what 10 songs they were for me. Given any amount of time on a desert island and I'd not really want to listen to any of them after a while. Books are another thing, you can always re read them and get more out of them, not like a song that lasts only a few minutes...

Give me my XMSatellite Radio with 100 channels and I'd be much happier....:D

F**k, I gigged with the Sprockets when they were a crap progressive rock band, sometime in the mid 80's I think, I didn't know they were still around, is it still the same line-up?

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
Talking Heads - Remain in Light
Bob Dylan - Bootleg Series vol 4 ("Royal Albert Hall" Show)

i personally don't think they were ever a "crap" progressive rock band, but to each his own

their first album (bread and circus) came out in 1989... not sure how long they'd been together before that.

they broke up about 4 years ago, all did their own things... the sing (glen phillips) recorded a solo album and toured a bunch. quite good stuff. they recently got back together for a reunion tour (played damn well for having been split for so long), and from what glen told my bro, they're gonna try to quelch their differences and record some new material.

    we'll see

    in no particular order

    aphex twin- drukqs
    pixies- surfer rosa
jon spencer- now i got worry
    beatles- white album
    squarepusher- go plastic
    beastie boys- check your head
    pbd- pretty
    radiohead- kid a
    leonard cohen- best of
    led zeppelin- physical graffitti

altho that seems to leave some big holes, so id prolly be mad at myself for making such nearsighted choices. nirvana might have helped, and the stones, and um matmos, and uh, heh! where'd all the proper hip-hop go?

    i dunno

i dunno what proper hip hop is. i love the beastie boys, for instance, but im not sure they could really serve to placate my interest in hip hop is all i mean. something like dr dre, i spose, or the roots if i feel artsy/pretensh, or missy elliot if i feel silly. i just looked over my 10 before i posted and reck'd id missed sommink. and i couldnt figure what to replace. so, proper=proper. busta rhymes? ferget if i know.

Whoa, this WAS a toughie. Here's my 10 (not necessarily favourites, not necessarily "I think this is a good album".. just 10 I'd most want with me), EXCLUDING compilations, live albums, best of etc.

    In no order:

    - Barenaked Ladies - Gordon
    - They Might Be Giants - Flood
    - Josie and the Pussycats - Movie Soundtrack
    - The Beautiful South - Blue is the Colour
    - Kasey Chambers - The Captain
    - Eels - Daisies of the Galaxy
    - Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing
    - Moxy Fruvous - Bargainville
    - The Whitlams - Eternal Nightcap
    - The Clouds - Penny Century

Unfortunately I couldn't find a place for Metallica - Master of Puppets, or Portishead - Dummy.
