it's been nearly two months since his "last activity". i'm concerned. 'rat, you there?
I Googled him and he's still active out there.
He stopped posting after I called him out on his hypocritical attack on my intelligence. I'm guessing he's done with us.
that's good. not to be overly macabre (though it is halloween), but it occurred to me that if a regular (or ex-) poster here dies, how would we know?
further, what's the proper grieving response for virtual acquaintances? anyone here a sociologist or psychologist?
Yeah, I haven't seen him around for ages. But, members come and go, he is nothing special in this regard...
I don't really post in the political forum but this caught my eye:
I've thought about that before. The sad part? In my little imagined scenarios, I ask my boyfriend to post in the private forums letting people know I won't be around anymore.
I don't know. Here's an example of when it happened on another forum.
This actually happened to me, in another forum. The founder of the mailing list died after a long fight with cancer. We knew she was ill, because she told us, and we suspected that she'd died when she stopped posting. Somebody contacted the family to verify. The list members did some virtual memory-sharing for several days, then moved on. I think some of the members who knew her best sent condolence cards to her family. This is a list where the members hold actual "reunions" in various parts of the country, though. A lot of us have actually met.
I checked up on him too FWIW. He's fine, just sick of us. Or maybe just me, I'm not sure. I guess it doesn't matter much. He was pretty good for sticking it out in hostile territory as long as he did.
I'm pretty sure that happened here at macrumors too. It was a few years ago and I think his spouse said he had died but enjoyed his time at macrumors. I can't seem to find that thread now....
I should have someone do that for me if I died while on MR.
It'll be the SADDEST THREAD EVER, because all of you love me, right?
//I could be posting frm BEYOND THE GRAVE!
Yes, you'd be missed... what other little lady would all these boys (er, I mean, men *coughyeahrightcough*) torment?
where's my $40?
That's too bad. I thought he was fairly reasonable, even though I didn't always agree with him
If I keeled over at my keyboard I thought you guys should know that my virtual last wishes are to be cremated. Virtually. And after it happens, not before.
Kill two birds with one stone. Test-drive that G5 PowerBook.
<puts away flamethrower>
Just don't write an unknown but fantastic novel, then off yourself.
First things first. I need to write that novel.
Wouldn't it be better than offing yourself before you wrote it?
That depends entirely on the book.
Yeah, he was mentioned in the Who Do You Miss forum. I knew he wasn't feeling well a few months ago. Good to hear that he was ok last you checked. Don't blame him for bowing out. Didn't always agree with him (which means pretty much never), but it got worse as things got worse for the Conservatives. He'd be tearing his hair out now.
I would hope that people notice me when I'm gone... but I haven't made it a point to be distinctive.
His last response, truncated:
Not too bad. He didn't leave a going away message like that of Hector's here lies my last post, ever. No animosity or ill-will towards members of MR. Hmmm....
Yeah, which was a completely uncalled for response to my post parodying a previous post of his in which he was serious. I even included a smiley, but that didn't slow him down in his journey down hypocrite lane...
