I was at Best Buy earlier and I was checking out the iPhone XR and I noticed that the screen was bigger and I really enjoyed that. I was wondering if anyone out there upgraded their iPhone X to the iPhone XR for that reason or at least mainly for that reason. Please let me know your experience and if it was worth it

Won't your hoity toity friends look down on you for not having a top of the line phone? You ran a topic about it a while back.

Turns out the vast majority of iphone people aren't buying into Apple upgraditis every year.

Trading last years top of the line for this years bottom of the line isn't an upgrade.

This OP has made a thread asking if he should get literally every iPhone since the 7, for fear that he is missing out or people will think less of him if he doesn’t have the latest one.

I considered moving to the XR to get the better battery, however once I used it, I couldn't live i with the lower res screen and what seemed like comically large bezels (like a Chinese clone). It went back after 10 days.

X is almost same screen size as XR. Go for Xs Max.

It’s not only about the screen size but about the screen resolution in points (not pixels: see here!). This point resolution is the same for the XR and the Xs Max and significantly higher than the X and Xs....This, the battery and the price was the main reason for me to choose the XR...

Thank you so much for this. I am in the small group of people who have a Xʀ, Max and X and actually PREFER the Xʀ.

People always wanna be like “but it’s inferior” or “that screen res though”. However most of the people who say this doesn’t get it. The screen res is fine. Saying inferior is highly subjective.

This phone has the best battery life ever on an iPhone and TBH it’s not even close. I got the Max on launch expecting my battery life to be much better than on my X, but it never was. When the phones were announced I kept telling myself to wait for the Xʀ ... just wait just wait... of course I didn’t and got the Max on Launch in a decision I would later regret. Here we are over 2 months since the Xʀ launch day and my Max has been collecting dust. I’m probably just gonna sale the Max, but haven’t gotten around to it. The 6.1” screen just seems to be the sweet spot for me. When I compare the 2 phones side by side the differences are negligible. Yes the Max shows deeper blacks. In some videos it’s a little more crisp, but nothing to trade off with Battery Life.

To me, and this is my opinion, but I believe the iPhone Xʀ is the best “people’s” iPhone Apple has ever made. Yeah the Max is “supposed” to be the best Iphone this year, but there’s an argument when you get 95% of the Max’s features for 70% of the cost.

Just buy what you like and what you think you need. Others’ can’t make up your mind for you and everyone is different in their buying decisions.

X to Xr isn't an upgrade. It's a side-step with compromises.

It depends what features are important for you. Regarding battery life the XR is definitely an upgrade to the X and even to the Xs Max. Every buy of any product is in the end the result of compromises....

Disclaimer: I don’t own XR, therefore I’m not trying to be defensive about this device.

However, ‘Comically large bezels’ doesn’t apply to the XR, that would probably be more specific to a phone like iPhones 6 through 8 that actually do have significant bezels, anyone complaining the bezels of the XR is generally on forums like this, not in the real world.

The query is about the screen size not screen resolution.

No... XR has wider bezels on the side than the 6-8.

I acknowledge that you may not see it as such. Surely, you understand that I feel different?

Nope. Not even close.

The XR is noticeably faster. Face recognition is a HUGE improvement over the X. Love the screen size.

I gave my X 256GB to my wife and “upgraded” to the XR. No regrets.

The only thing I feel I gave up in the move was the telephoto camera. All this bs about bezels and resolution is just that...bs. No substantial difference.

Bingo. I would also agree that the XR is the best iPhone value wise for most people. Value is subjective as is affordability, but it’s hard to ignore you get 95% of the XS Max experience at 70% of the price.

If your an X owner I would think this is the the upgrade cycle you would be reasonable expected to skip. With one caveat. If you could save money by switching (intentionally omitting the word “upgrade”) to the Xr then its win situation. I would only switch from X to Xr right now if I could save $ in the transaction. I Don’t think this would happen though because of value depreciation. This is all assuming you bought the X when it came out and not last week.

Not sure why people here think their subjective experience is the truth.

Some people do notice a difference in resolution and some do notice a difference in the bezel size.

Personally I think the XR screen quality is fine but it’s a bit too wide for me compared to the XS. For my hands every mm counts.
