I bought an iPad 8. gen 32gb with Apple Pencil for approx. $400 which looked like a great deal for me. My intended use case was to use it as a device for learning English, writing notes and also as a media consumption device.

However, after a couple of days I feel I made a mistake. The gap between upper dispaly protective layer and actual screen is more than noticeable and it bothers me quite a bit. I am an hobby photographer who likes to play with photo post-processing. In the beginning I didn't intend to use is as a tool for editing picture because Mac should do a better job, right? The experience with moving sliders by Pencil is quite neat., but there are two problems; 32GB of space can be easily filled up with jpeg/raw files and A12 somehow doesn't seems too be fast enough there is 1s delay when I compare original with edited picture.

I can still return the iPad and pick something else instead. In my country it's possible to get iPad Air 64GB with pencil for $800 or iPad Pro 11" 128GB with pencil for $950.

Did I make a mistake by buying underpowered iPad for my work? 64GB is not a lot of storage, so it means that iPad Air doesn't make sense for me (unless needing 256GB). With iPad Pro, I am a little bit concerned about A12Z, but still shouldn't be a huge issue, especially with extra 2GB of RAM.

Another approach would be to stick to iPad 8 until next gen iPad Pro 2021 is announced? The price might be around $1100 though and it wouldn't make sense to buy older 2020 gen as I can buy it for a similar price right know with Black Friday deals.

In your shoes, I would just go for the 128GB iPad Pro 2020.

Mind, no guarantee that A12Z or even A14/A14X will get rid of the delay but at least it will solve your display and storage issue.

Go Pro and I doubt you'll regret it. Might as well spent the extra if you are realistically able to, you will enjoy it much more. If you don't mind selling it used, you could also turn around and sell it to fund a new one when they come out. It is worth noting that it's unlikely that there will be a "killer" feature that will instantly make the current Pro old and out of date, it will have better specs definitely but it won't be a major difference in day-to-day for most until a few years from now.

If you aren't pleased with your purchase then return it for a refund and get something that you'll be happier with.

IMO, the iPad 8th gen is a great device at a great price... especially with the Apple Pencil 1. I think the 32GB storage is skimpy (no matter what you'll be using it for) so if anything, I'd return it for the 128GB. Not only are the accessories cheaper for the 8th, there are more options... in addition to the typical cases, an honest-to-goodness smartcover is available as well as the smart keyboard cover (which is my favorite keyboard option for any iPad)... neither of which are available for the Air or Pro.

I've gone from a 12.9 iPad Pro -> iPad 6th gen -> iPad Mini 5. If I were going to up-size, it would be to the iPad 8th gen in a heartbeat without any hesitation.

Yeah, I would definitely get the iPad Pro. You'll really appreciate it and have a much better experience.
