Hi all. As many of you know control+n and control+p works like down arrow and up arrow on macOS. I use these bindings as they're easier to reach than the arrow keys.

After updating to Ventura, in Spotlight I can no longer move down from the text input to the search results by pressing control+n? This used to work. More specifically, if if press cmd+space and type something, then control+n does nothing. Down arrow, though, still navigates to the search results, and once the search results are focused control+n/control+p does work.

I can't find anything about this by searching, so I'm wondering if this is broken for everyone or just me?

never knew that worked in spotlight! but not working here now (also, command-R will reveal an item in spotlight in it's enclosing folder)

Thanks a lot for the reply @fisherking. That's unfortunate, I'm sad to see that standard macOS hotkeys are no longer supported by Spotlight. But now I at least know that it's not just something on my machine. Hopefully it'll get fixed in an update.

i never used those key commands in spotlight (i find the arrows easiest, they're right next to each other).

so might be good if some others chimed in about this...

They replaced Control + N and Control + P with Space.

Just go press the arrow keys to the file you want to preview, and press Space.

I noticed this today on Ventura 13.4 (22F66) after pairing an old Magic Keyboard (not sure if it's related). Like others, I use Control+N/P to quickly move up and down, with Caps Lock remapped to Control.

Some good news.

If you press Tab first, then Control+N/P continues to work as expected. Tab switches the focus to the results.

It's an extra keystroke, but some semblance of order in the universe is restored 😆. Hope this helps!
