See thread title. I'm wondering how much difference there is between i5 and i7 processors of identical GHz ratings?

As there are desktop and mobile i5 and i7 CPUs, you may be a bit more specific, as some i5s are quad cored and some are dual core, some i7 are dual core, some are quad core, some i5 support hyperthreading, some don't, and so on.

At what Macs are you looking?

I guess what I'm getting at is two identical models - same GHz, number of cores, same little bonuses such as hyper threading etc - the only variation being in whether the CPU is i5 or i7

Or being made for a desktop or mobile computer.

Can this help? I found it via "i5 vs i7" as search terms.
