Disable finder window on login

Does anybody know of a way to disable the finder window from opening when you log into the computer?

I know that if there is one open when you shutdown, it will open when you turn it back on, but I was wondering if there was a way to disable this very annoying feature?

Maybe close your window before you shut down. Or maybe actually tell the computer you're shutting down, and not holding the power button.
