Disk Utility First Aid: The System Freezes At “Checking Catalogue”?

    I tried to screen capture but system frozen. I am trying to diagnose the disk and check for any errors or other issues. The scan begins but freezes near-immediately at “Checking Catalogue.” I had to force shut down; I retried twice and same problem occurred both additional times. 10.11.4. Suggestions?

    Try repairing the disc in recovery mode. If the repair process still fails, then the disc is probably faulty and will therefore need to be replaced.
