Do I choose “activate my iPhone” or “buy a new iPhone” when ordering at&t next installment plan in Apple store app? Current phone is paid off, my contract is with at&t.

Both seem to give you the same options for payment don’t know which is correct though

I'm curious as well. I sold my phone already, so I had to sign in to my sons phone to use the app for ordering in the morning. My line is eligible for the upgrade. The problems is that because it is his phone I am signed into, his phone number is showing in the app on the preorder I have saved in favorites and I am afraid it is going to say I can't upgrade his line because I just got him an XR.I might have to use the website because of that.

I hope it then will let me select my line.

How did you get that far it won’t show me my eligibile line or anything

I signed into Apple's website and went through the process and then favorited it. Then, I went into the app to make sure it was showing and scrolled through (everything is greyed out) but when you get to "Your Current Carrier" the phone number for the phone you are on should be greyed out right underneath it.

If you are replacing current phone, pick activate My iPhone, if you are adding a new line pick Buy iPhone
But what if you are not replacing the phone you are on and you don't want a new line? I already have a line that is upgrade eligible, but it is not the one showing because I am on a different phone.

Then you will go to "buy a new phone". Then it will ask for your details. That could slow you down come pre-order time.

I’m going to have to add a line to do my pre-order. My iPhone 8 Plus is still in the 14 day buyer remorse period, but it will not be removed from account until
They receive it back. I shipped it today.

So I’ll just add a third line with the iPhone 11 Pro 256GB pre-order through MyATT app.

“Activate my phone” comes with a AT&T SIM card and “buy a new phone” doesn’t come with a sim. If you chose “activate” they provide you with a AT&T sim and activate the phone for you. Choose “buy a new phone” if you already have a activated AT&T SIM card.
