OK, I recently bestowed my iPhone on my wife and am just using my work phone, but having a Gen 1 iPhone (8 GB) it is eligible to upgrade to the 3GS for $199. My wife NEVER uses the phone, so I was able to downgrade the plan to the Senior Nation 200 plan, which is 200 minutes a month, 500 nights and weekends and the original iPhone data plan. However, when going through the upgrade process it says the following:

If I'm not mistaken the data plans for the 3G on up do not include texting, so does this mean that I can get the upgrade, but have to drop the bundled texting (which is fine by me) and can still keep the phone plan?

I think you would get a much more accurate response if you called at&t or whomever your local provder is.

In short: Yes. Your minutes will stay the same, the only difference is that you will be required to have the $30 data plan and will lose bundled texting.
