Just wondering if any Republicans or semi-conservatives exist on MR. Seems like this whole forum is loaded with liberals. Just want to see if we exist!

I don't know about republicans, but there seem to be plenty of 'libertarian' anarchocapitalists.

You'd be surprised at how many of us have certain conservative values. I'm gay, but I'm for gun ownership rights, hate anti-smoking laws, and actually do indeed think our government wastes money. Don't assume that everyone here is merely conservative or liberal. We are a mixed up bunch.

Which automatically makes you a tool of the evil librools. ;)

Which brings to mind a conversation I had tonight with a friend. We both agreed that once you travel, you understand that the US claim of "The Greatest Country On Earth" is amazingly false. Europe is kicking our butts economically for a reason. People in Europe are free to innovate because they are freed from certain concerns, namely health care. I saw people going into different lines of work, starting businesses and generally being happier because of your "socialism". I have never seen the amount of risk-taking and innovation in the US that I've seen in Europe. You guys have your s*** together. One of these days, we will too.

I don't know Europe has it as good as you say, but I don't know the US that well I suppose .

The reason there aren't many republicans here is that by any sensible scale even Democrats are right wing. This means most republican positions are based on some arbitrary set of values rather than logical positions. So when argued against logically their positions often fall apart.

In a Norwegian standard, I'm a right wing nutty.

However, had I livet in the US 40 years ago I'd be shot for being a communist.

Politics scale in different ways in Europe and the US. Funny, innit?

The only thing you guys lack is freedom of speech, which I found shocking and extremely disappointing. Trying to sell a film that would be considered somewhat controversial in the US, was almost impossible in Europe. At the Berlin International Film Festival, all we kept hearing from producers was, "We love your film, it's just going to be impossible to get by the censors in France, Britain, etc." Very sad. Everything else is incredible. When I was in Berlin, I kept thinking, "This is the way life should be".

    Hey, I resemble that remark.:p

Libertarian/Independent. Conservative financially, middle of the road socially.

Nearly all federally elected officials are in it for the proliferation of their respective party and not for the people they are elected to represent. Growing up in the 60-70's made me a hard sell to any party.

Republicans today stand for something much different then say 20 years ago, I bet there are a ton of former republicans here that left this extremist holier then though party.Bush & his republican draft dodgers destroyed what this party stood for.
I love to bring up the fact that if you looked at who Bush surrounded himself with. Being a draft dodger had to have been mandatory. Warmongers and everyone of them didnt serve the country when asked but years later took us into false wars and eager to stamp out our Liberty's and Freedoms.

Cheney Phill Graham Newt Gingrich Dick Army
    O'reilly Wofowitz,
    Rush
    Delay
    Rove
    Libbey
    Lott
Ashcroft and a lot more. "Chickenhawks" Today Republicans today The Party of NO! unless you want wars and bombs then they say yes.
