    Hey everybody,

Today I was asked by somebody to take something of the top shelf of in a supermarket as i am taller and can reach it, which made me think is it good or bad to be tall? Would you rather be shorter or taller than you are right now and why?

(Sorry if this has been discussed before I have searched for it but couldn't find anything)

I like my height just fine.

I'm Buddhist / Atheist, and liberal ... just to give this some reason to exist in PRSI.

I never realized Waloshiosis was becoming endemic.
Hopefully they find a cure soon. ;)

Well, I'm 6'3". It's a good height, especially for hockey. But trying to fit in cars these days? Terrible! Back seats are usually impossible for me to sit in most cars now.

    Hopefully you're not too tall.

Those people seem to fall apart and die off faster.

That's true. Not too many tall old people out there.

I'm fine with 6'0'', except when flying long-distance.

    I was 5"11" as a young adult.

I'm 51 years old, so I've lost some off that.

    That's what she said.

Sorry, you know someone had to do it ;)

I'm about 6'0" too, and it's fine with me.

I'm confused because I don't have some preconceived political, religious or social opinion to spout in this thread. ;)

I'm 5'10. It's fine for a guy. Shorter people live longer too.

6'3 and I'm fine with it. Would actually like to be a little taller, maybe 6'6? Works out for me except, as others have noted, when flying. I don't like having to tetrisize myself in order fit into a seat. That and bashing my head against the overhead storage compartments.

    5'11''

Just right IMO. Anything taller would be awkward for alot of stuff (cars, bikes, planes, counters, etc)

As a kid I used to like being short, because it made it easy to crawl into nooks and crannies.

I don't much mind being short and dealing with things on high shelves (that's what stepstools are for, or the tall attractive guy walking by you in the grocery store) ;)

But lots of things are now being built to accommodate taller people, and leaving short people with poor ergonomics. That includes bus seats where my toes dangle inches off the ground (I'm 5'4", which is just an inch under theaverage for women); car seats where the back support is at my shoulderblades and the neck support forces my head to tip forwards; sofas that are so deep that if I sit against the back I can't bend my knees (like a child on an adult-sized chair); and plane seats that exhibit all of the above issues, making a 3-hour trip an exercise in torture.

Also, I'm awkwardly at the inflection point between where different sizes or adjustments are recommended for people of different heights, so for instance I'm never certain whether to get a size small (up to 5'4") or size medium (5'4"+) exercise ball, stuff like that. Maybe that means either size would work for me, or maybe the small would be a little too small for me and the medium a little too large.

My brother would call those first-world problems, of course. And I have no problem with my height in and of itself.

I spend more time in cars and airplanes than I do running for elected office. Therefore, I'd rather not be any taller. If you're tall, people are more likely to vote for you but you're less likely to have enough leg room!

    So, give it up??

I made it part of my screening routine, when I was searching for a new car. If I can't sit back there, how can I ask someone else to.

HEY, I'm sitting right here you know!!

Aisle, bulk-head or Emergency Exit seat please. Yes, I know how to work it.

Never quite made it to 6' 1", just a silly 1/2" short.

And I lie to myself, and call it 6' now, even though I'm 72, and have probably dropped a full inch, at least.

Still, I can see over most people, so it's all good. :D

I hate my height. Well hate is a strong word, but if I could pick my height I wouldn't pick what I am at the moment.

I'm about 5'4-5'5 which is short for a dude. 5'7 is like the minimum I would have wanted to be :(

6'8" here, I stand like a god among men
It does have its difficulties, like legroom for flying etc, but I fit in most cars as long as its a short trip.
I wouldn't really want to be any shorter.

EDIT: I like how I've been downvoted for being tall. Jealous dwarves?

I feel for ya. I'm 5'7 and I feel short...sometimes. But I don't usually let it bother me...it doesn't really effect me any way in life. I like being nimble and quick. :D
