Finally, after a ridiculous RFP process that only the government could create. Over 300 pages of requirements for a handgun that a consumer decides to buy after reading and shooting in an hour or two of research. Program will cost $580 million. For a little popgun.

Wouldn't be surprised to learn that the decision was made before the inauguration so Trump would have more difficulty cancelling it. Announced at the magnificent SHOT Show in Vegas.

I'm suprised they didn't switch to these considering how things have been going lately with the sissification of the military....

They are staying with 9mm, the 357 Sig is too much recoil and blast for the little girls (that feminists say can do anything a man can) to qualify with...

9 mm is my preferred caliber.

Good thing I'm not in the military, I hate 9mm, but I can understand with the cost of ammo 9mm NATO vs .357 SIG.

    So, 3.9" or 4.7"?

Seems the price has the normal military up charge, $1054 per unit, if they are in fact ordering 550k of them.

What's the problem with 300 pages of requirements?

My understanding is that NATO 9mm rounds are roughly 30% cheaper than .40 rounds, which is a savings of tens of millions in the military budget for the same lethality.

Not with the FMJ projectiles required by our silly compliance with the Hague Convention.

The 320 will be full sized, but they did order a percentage of compacts. It is modular, and hasn't gotten very good reviews from some government agencies who tried it, DHS being one of them.

Prefer the Sig P229 and P226 Legion in 9mm. Trigger action is a dream, 15 plus one capacity. Shoot the tightest groups with those pistols.

I am a fan of .45 Caliber. However I never has any issues with late model 92's and thought they were built very will.

Edit: I would have been happy if they killed off the 9mm and went back to the 1911.

I've never shot any gun better from the line than I did with the 1911 in the service. But it needed to be changed out. I carried a Sig for years and it was an excellent combat gun.

    Love me my 226.

I assume 9mm for the girls, .357 for the boys and .40 for the men? ;)

The Navy Seals have gone with the Glock 19, 9mm. Enough validation for me.

The 320 is modular, the chassis is the firearm and can be changed to different frames and calibers I believe. Everyone thought Glock had it in the bag. Oops.

Maybe like it says we'll hear something at shot. The army does need to get off their butt and get this as well as the M4 replaced. If love to see them look into the machine guns too but at this rate I'll be in the ground before that happens.
