"It is thus necessary that the individual should finally come to realize that his own ego is of no importance in comparison with the existence of his nation; that the position of the individual ego is conditioned solely by the interests of the nation as a whole...that above all, the unity of a nation's spirit and will are worth far more than the freedom of the spirit and will of an individual...we understand only the individual's capacity to make sacrifices for the community, for his fellow man."

Who thinks John McCain believes this ?

Darn it I was hoping to be lazy :p

Ah, I see. I think that it seems like something a republican wouldn't say. That is a pretty socialist view (imho).

Here's what McCain said at the Republican National convention :

"I’ve been an imperfect servant of my country for many years. But I have been her servant first, last and always. And I’ve never lived a day, in good times or bad, that I didn’t thank God for the privilege.

"I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else’s. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency; for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn’t my own man anymore. I was my country’s. "

"If you find faults with our country, make it a better one. If you’re disappointed with the mistakes of government, join its ranks and work to correct them. Enlist in our Armed Forces. Become a teacher. Enter the ministry. Run for public office. Feed a hungry child. Teach an illiterate adult to read. Comfort the afflicted. Defend the rights of the oppressed. Our country will be the better, and you will be the happier. Because nothing brings greater happiness in life than to serve a cause greater than yourself. "

Do the two sound similar ?

Close. You need to put a "Nationalist" before the word "Socialist".

    I'm invoking Godwin.

I am not saying there is anything inherently wrong with the view. But now that I think about it I kinda can see a non-socialist spin that could be applied. But no more than the $700b "rescue plan" is offering.

I didn't say McCain said it. I just asked if republicans think he believes it.

Asking if Sen. McCain agrees with Hitler is no better than the Republican Party Smear Machine™ accusing Sen. Obama of being terr'rist.

No good will come of this.

I dare say that many US presidents (past, present and future) would agree with the statement.

Although, when you factor in some of the other things McCain has said or done, I see more than one comparable.

Why? Because you're validating, and perpetuating, their tactics. Rise above them.

    My point was this.

If McCain has a similar view that Adolph Hitler wrote about in 1939 then that makes McCain a Nazi. Using the neo-con view of the world.

    Tit for Tat.

    Hitler? No.

    Goebbels? Absolutely!

Since the USA claims to be electing The Leader of the Free World™, I think it's only right that the rest of the world be allowed to vote express an opinion. ;)

Some of the things he says and some of the people he hates... it's a little eerie at times!

Any person with the title of 'reich minister for enlightenment and propaganda' just has to be gravy!
