Do you believe in God? Recently polls show around 80% of the US is Christian. I wonder how MacRumors demographics compare.

Depend on how you define god.

As a Buddhist, we get pretty close to it when we describe a vast, formless field of benefaction.

But a personal God who made us "in his image" and passes judgment on our immortal souls?

No. I don't believe in that.

I believe I don't know a damn thing other than the physical world, and I'm satisfied with that. I also believe nobody else knows squat either, regardless of their faith.

I don't believe in religion or religious books.

I believe a higher power, like a God, is possible. And I believe in the possibility of an afterlife.

I'm a Deist. I believe that a God (Higher Power) exists, but that "being" does not interfere with day-to-day life. God created the Universe and everything that has followed since is random. I do not believe in determinism.

I don't believe in any god in the sense that is portrayed in any religion.
Look at the universe and it's hard to not believe that there isn't something greater than we are out there.

That said, I believe in being a decent human to other humans.
Call it karma or whatever, but I believe you get back what you put out.

I am not from the US.

Instead, I am from those isles on - or off - the north west of Europe. And, no, I do not believe "in God".

However, I do believe in attempting to live an ethical existence.

Religious identification doesn't necessarily correspond to religious belief. Sure 80% of US citizens may be Christians, but many of them are probably secular. Personally I consider myself Jewish but I'm completely secular and I don't believe in a god. I think it's very possible that a god of some kind exists, but personally I find that believing in the traditional Abrahamic gods is just ridiculous.

Agnostic doesn't mean maybe. An agnostic is someone who believes that nothing is known or can be known about the existence of Gods.

Right, nothing can be known, so.... maybe.

It's not the same. If you believe that you can't or don't know, you say you can't or don't know. You don't say maybe. Saying we don't know why the big bang happened doesn't mean that a god might have done it. It just means we don't know. Saying you don't know whether vampires exist in Transylvania doesn't mean you are open to the possibility. It just mean you don't know.

I did at one time. Then grew a backbone and learned what was truly right and wrong in the world. And not necessarily things that I was told were wrong or what was "disgusting."

In the case of Buddhism, it's something you directly experience through meditation (and other methods).

The central message of Buddhism is not every man for himself.

In all seriousness, same here, and for many of us who do, we feel it is a knowing and not just believing. But I’d never impose that point of view or insist on that to anyone else. To each his or her own.

But I can’t help thinking of Cthulhu whenever I eat calamari and wondering what if.... ;)
