Why yes - it does sound like a touch of crazy.

"One of the things with the wall is you need transparency,’ he told journalists on Thursday while on Air Force One. ‘You have to be able to see through it. So it could be a steel wall with openings, but you have to have openings because you have to see what’s on the other wide of the wall. And I’ll give you an example. As horrible as it sounds, when they throw large sacks of drugs over, and if you have people on the other side of the wall, you don’t see them. They hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It’s over. As crazy as that sounds, you need transparency through that wall. But we have some incredible designs.

Hah! It's back to the dark ages for us, is it? The enemy is rolling their siege engines up to our walls. We will need to prepare the flaming arrows and boiling oil to repel them, and prepare a counter attack with our mounted knights...

Or, you know, a boat headed for the US salt-water coastline of about 5,700 miles for the lower 48 states, not to mention the coasts of bays and estuaries fed by fresh water...

Wait...I thought it was supposed to be a solar panel wall now? I know of no see-thru solar panels. Geez, like everything else he rambles all over the place and changes the story constantly. Time for a rest home.

Ronny Ray-Gun was like this during his 2nd term. Luckily for us, Nancy was around to keep his dementia in check. There is no Nurse Ratchet to keep Trump from flying over the cuckoo's nest.

How about doors in the wall so they can just walk through and set the drugs down gently? That has to be safer.

The markup of the appropriation for Homeland Security spending including the wall is happening now.

You can view it or read about it per info provided below in Politico's Morning Shift. It was supposed to start at 10:30 but got delayed a little bit and is still ongoing.

To cut to the chase the hearing is live here:

    The Politico notes:

BORDER WALL MARKUP: The House Appropriations Committee will today mark up the Homeland Security spending bill. The measure would boost DHS discretionary funds by more than 4 percent and lavish $1.6 billion on President Donald Trump’s border wall. The bill would also ramp up enforcement, with 1,000 new U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement officers and 500 new Border Patrol agents; on top of that, it would increase detention beds by nearly 12 percent.

The border wall funding will, of course, stir partisan resistance. Last week Matthew Dennis, a spokesman for committee Democrats, said they would “draw a hard line” against appropriating money for the wall. "The purpose of the Homeland Security bill is to make communities more safe and secure, and this pointless wall does nothing to accomplish that,” he said. Still, Republicans control the committee and shouldn’t have much difficulty wrangling the votes. Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen backs the wall, despite his ambivalence a few months ago (“I'm not sure the wall's the answer”).The markup begins at 10:30 a.m. in Rayburn 2359. Watch it here and read a summary of the bill here.

GOP advocates of the wall, of course! Congressional aides, young and experienced at all manner of heavy lifting for the team. Once the wall is built they will move on to other assignments, like showing how easy it is to lift up bales of tax cut money from the Treasury. Oh wait, first they have to show how easy it is to pick up health care for nothing at Emergency Rooms. But you'll see. They are a talented, versatile bunch.

Heh it's going to take a ladder from Home Depot and then some to scale the pile of amendments getting hung onto the Homeland Security appropriations bill, which includes spending for that wall.

In the hearing I put up a link for above, the amendments are being considered and voted on in committee at a pretty good clip. I just heard the arguments go by for amendments related to H2A visa continuation and the vote taken by voice (it passed) and now they're hearing arguments on the amendment on the extension of DACA (which supports the deferral from deportation of certain vetted young immigrants).

EDIT: well that one's getting a roll call vote after the chair's decision that voice vote was a NAY was challenged.... but partyline vote looks to be happening... aye 22 nay 30, so that amendment on DACA gets busted back to consideration elsewhere.. Now there's another one on DACA, however and now that one's being argued. So the beat goes on.

Magic or mischief or madness, that's the markup process LOL. It can get hot in those rooms...

Now depending on your point of view, assorted DHS spending amendments could be seen as poison pills or else guarantees that something good comes out of the bill, regardless of what happens to the proposed spending on the wall.

Well anyway we can stick this bill on the pile of stuff that will add to the debt ceiling drama at summer's end...

Whatever happened to his grand idea of putting solar panels on the wall. Interesting idea except they would have to be on the Mexican side to catch any rays... Oh and you would have to angle them outwards, so you could only have them one layer thick as they would cast shadows down on any below... o_O

I oppose the idea on the grounds that too many Mexicans will be given a massive advantage in mime when pretending to be feeling up an invisible wall. Oh wait, they're probably thinking the same thing about Americans. Carry on.
