This is the same governor who said that Texas might secede. Not the brightest bulb in the tree. ;)

Perry is a scumbag plain and simple. I would vote for him to go to lets say the senate not because I think he is good candidate but to get him the hell out of the state. At least their the nut case can be drowned out by the other 99 senators and is just one more voice. It would be better for the state.

You should see some of the crap he pulls. Texas is not getting some money for the education system because he will not agree to the stipulation that Texas can not cut money from education dispositional compared to everything else. That requirement was requested not by the congress as Perry likes to put it but put in there because Texas School distracts demanded it after the stunt Perry pulled the last time. That was education got a few extra billion from the federal government and the education budget was cut by the same amount.
The requirement is not that the state can not cut money from the education budget just it can not absorb all of it.

Perry is a crook and Texas education is paying the price. Texas needs to raise taxes and remove some loop holes. For example some of the pretty bogus agg exemption people have on property tax. Make those a little harder to get. That would plug quite a few of them.

Raise taxes? I think you mean start collecting - correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Texas one of the few states that doesn't tax personal income? Perhaps it's time for them to start.

Let them. We'll move all of the sane people in the state to Austin, since it's fairly liberal, slice off the part of Austin that contains the state capital building, and the rest can secede. And Texas can build a wall around Austin. It will be a bit like West Berlin in the middle of East Germany. ;)

No state income tax and it needs to stay that way. Texas is one of the few places that are hardly feeling the effects of the so called recession. Come to Houston and you won't even notice it.

We are doing perfectly fine here so just let us be.

You're not feeling it thanks to the stimulus which your governor rallied against.

New Orleans is also doing fine thank you very much, well.... putting the whole Katrina deal aside, that is.

However, as per the recession, we haven't felt it yet.

Today's conservative: one hand, clenched in a fist, stabs the air in protest over "big-government spending". The other hand is stretched out discreetly at waist level, palm up, ready to recieve pork and bailout money.

Probably this is down to oil prices being at record highs.

That doesn't make sense - folks need to buy gas in Houston, too.

Dallas isn't too different - overall, the economy here is in much better shape than around the country. Gas is getting expensive for us here, too. What does the price of oil have to do with your claim?

That we all work in oil. And if we don't we have oil in our backyard.

The Saudis have to buy gas too, it doesn't mean they don't have lots of oil money floating around.

That a number of large, and very profitable oil companies are located in Texas.

Did....come on....did you read the article? Theres a reason you're "hardly feeling the effects of the so called recession" and it is directly because you guys used the stimulus money to fix your budget.

I stated come to Houston and you hardly notice it. I was backing that up.

There. You will notice that oil isn't the winning reason of the states success either.

Of course not, but the oil companies would have made a positive contribution.

So that 6.4 billion dollars is the sole reason why Texas is in such good shape? 6.4 billion dollars is going to take care of this whole entire state?
