Just got an alert from USAToday that 9 people are dead and 16 injured as a result of this.

Hopefully, he spend the rest of his life in prison.

American prisons are like hotels, so Canadian prisons are like apartments.

He'll be back on the street in like 10 years.

He should get death, but in Canada he will be given luxury and he'll be out with a new ID in 20 years.

It’s a shame that the cops failed to deliver expedited justice while saving your taxpayer some $$$. Would’ve been a win-win.

Avoiding due process is not a win-win.

Nah, the cop should've taken him out. That would've been a win-win.

Not for the cop, nor for the admittedly quaint concept of a society governed by laws.

Think it’s more important to find the motive. Glad the police didn’t shoot him up. Now he can face justice.

It’s probably some crazy person. A terrorist would have killed themselves in all probability.

Nine people are dead and 16 are injured after the driver of a van plowed into multiple pedestrians in Toronto on Monday, Acting Police Chief Peter Yuen said.
    -

So in this case do we blame the easy access to rental vans and easy access to vehicles in general?

I don't mean to sound glib but if the title was "16 people shot, 9 dead" we would immediately have people demanding new gun laws* or banning certain types as the very least.

    * Yes I know this wasn't in the U.S.

This is getting old. Primary object of a gun is to KILL. A rock can be weaponized, so can any other heavy object or metal pipe for that matter. The difference is that they are ordinary objects, their main function is to provide some kind of utility, not MURDER.

So, YES to gun regulation, NO to van ban.

Because pointing a cellphone at a cop is always a death sentence.

Geez, he went after and hit a stroller too.

Please media, let's not give this man's name and face wall-to-wall coverage for several days, thus inspiring additional copy cat attacks from other deranged people looking for glory. The incident, fine...the man, no.

If you report your own post and ask the mods to do it they are usually happy to comply. I have done that a few times when I've accidentally made a duplicate post.

Hate to break it to you, but this had nothing to do with terrorism. Just a nutjob who couldn't get laid.

The perpetrator's apparent motivation was sexual frustration. Like the guy who went on the killing spree near UC Santa Barbara a few years ago. So, terrorism? Or not?

Heard somewhere the guy was Armenian which probably reduces the chance it was religious motivation/ISIS linked.

It becomes terrorism when it's done for a political purpose. He was a disturbed individual and it it looked like he really wanted suicide by cop. His problem was that our cops are not that trigger happy.

It’s pretty scary that this has become one of the most popular ways of mass murder.

A couple weeks ago I noticed for the first time at the Boston Marathon that every single intersection with the running route was barricaded- generally with a large vehicle like a dump truck or garbage truck. Smaller side streets generally had police cars or large pickup trucks blocking them.

It’s a sad state of affairs when you can’t even put on a Marathon without having to worry about stuff like that.

The "driving a large vehicle into a crowd" is a tough one to control and regulate. If it continues to happen we might need to look at ways to isolate pedestrians better from roadways and background checks for driver licenses and vehicle rentals.

As always, to all the "should we ban vans" people out there. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. We should regulate guns and vehicles the same way! Licensing, manufacturer responsibility, required safety features, regular testing, centralized databases. Great idea!
