Seeing how the 4th gen air has Touch ID on the power button, could this come to the iPhone Pro as a new feature? Essentially it could mean having dual factor biometric authentication for those who really want the maximum security (or even triple layer with passcode+touch ID+face ID. It could also work as a substitute for Face ID when we have to be masked, or once we’re out of the woods with COVID, the Touch ID could even register a specific fingerprint as a “kill” switch where the phone automatically locks the screen and disables biometrics and requires a special password to unlock the phone that could even be separate from your normal passcode. I think it would be nice for the phone to have a silent alarm feature in an emergency where here could be a visually discreet indicator (such as a different Lock Screen wallpaper) to the user but unknown to anyone else.

Any response is pure speculation at this point.. Anything is possible though.. Apparently rumor has it we’ll know mid October

I think the new Air might be a trial run. Apple can gather feedback and reliability from their users. They can buy another year to either perfect it, or to implement Touch ID under the screen. I believe with all the other production hurdles they’re facing, or have faced this year, they’ve probably left it out.

They do pull off a sneaky one here and there, so like the above stated, “anything is possible.” I think it would be great, and a huge selling point for me.
