I'll be heading to Metairie LA Feb. 1st to try to qualify to go to the Hooters Wing Eating Championship in New York. I doubt I'll win since it will be my first comp. Why? Just to do it. :) I tend to eat a lot anyways som I figured I'd give it a shot.

Anyone else do it for fun or competitively?

    I eat competitively.

I'm always trying to eat healthier and smaller proportions.

    The competition is tough.

But I'm doing a pretty good job of it.

I'm truly happy for you, keep it up.

Now please leave room for anyone that really does compete in eating events.

Anyone in the New Orleans area want to meet up at Hooters before it starts? I should be there around 3 or 4PM.

    I replied once.

I think there's room in the servers to accommodate more replies.

Hopefully this post doesn't max them out.

    ;)

    It might! ;)

I'm trying to find more events locally. You figured being tied with Louisiana at 49th fattest state, we'd have a BUNCH of eating events. :|

    Visceral Fat.

Yeah, I agree. I'm a fatty and I can't eat as much as I could.

Also, fat people have fat throats. It's harder to swallow larger amounts of food.

Google (youtube) search for Jamie "the bear" McDonald and Miki Sudo (Miki's 8lb burger is awesome to watch.)

Seemed like a good place for it. "Social issues"

I eat competitively and I think it's great for competition. Helps local businesses and eating challenges helps the business that is hosting challenge.

    What??

Competitive eating "helps local businesses"? I don't even want to get to the level of fail in that statement, and that is on top of the fact of the health problems we have, and that we are biggest country on this planet handling the biggest epidemic on this planet that shows no sign of slowing down: Obesity.

And eating contests do nothing but glorify that epidemic. So saying that eating competitions help businesses is farcical at the least, as you are wanting to put business and economy over your health. Without your health and your life, you can't help local business.

You can't "help local business" when you're dead from heart disease from the 5 coronaries you've had from the fat and cholesterol you have stored in your body from all of those eating contests.
