Editing & Replacing VOB files (on DVD)

Hi, maybe someone can help me out.

I have a digital portfolio on DVD I created some time ago. The problem is that I'm needing to update the opening video on this disc, without changing any of the menus, etc. Having ripped the DVD onto my hard drive, I attempted to replace the video VOB file with the new, updated version of the VOB file. After re-burning it, the new opening plays -- however, it will not reach the DVD menu, and simply freezes.

Any ideas? Is this even possible without starting from scratch?
