"Entitled" I do not think that word means what you think it means

It's hard to read a thread here or on Facebook (a political one) without seeing a post or two in which someone uses the word "entitled". I think it's the new "straw man", a word used as a written mic drop, the final comment to end all discussion. But a lot of people aren't even using it right. People don't want Islam taught it out schools, well they are just entitled. Entitled to what?

IDK, it just grinds my gears.

    Entitled.
I think that fits Americans (including myself) quite well.

The word is frequently being misused or overused, but it does fit this generation.

The usage case you've pointed out does make no sense what so ever.

But we do live in that kind of world now. Hell Xmas time I was happy with a bike or new trainers. Something basic. These days my 19 year old son told 'dad just get me an iPhone and an Apple Watch this year' my 11 year old daughter was 'dad I only want a MacBook'

Are my kids entitled? On here some would say yes. Most ADULTS would use the word 'spoilt' personally, I hate Xmas shopping so 1 big gift is better than traipsing around stores all day long!

Yes I totally agree entitled works very well for the generation in school now, the ones graduating and expecting high paying jobs immediately. I just have to laugh at the people on the interwebs who jump on the word or phrase of the month and then completely misuse it.

    Very well said!

Thanks for creating this thread, it's a worthwhile topic, even if it only causes some to think... :D

I told my wife one night that I was entitled to use her receptacle since she took a vow to "comfort me". That vow included that I had to be faithful so it's the only one I got. Didn't go over too well.

You're apparently not fulfilling your role as a Christian husband.
I had the distinct displeasure of listening to an interview with this blogger on Alan Colmes' radio show.

    Your wife has my sympathy.

That would never work, she'd hit me with "But you don't even go to Church".

I'm definitely socialist ... though communism is a little too extreme for my taste.

This guy said it way better than I ever could.

"If ye love wealth better than liberty,
    the tranquility of servitude
better than the animating contest of freedom,
go home from us in peace.
We ask not your counsels or your arms.
Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you.
May your chains set lightly upon you,
and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Surely the hardline capitalist is the one who feels entitled.

Funny, my generation is not the one that allowed our country to have it's economic base hollowed out via ******** trade policies and handing over the wealth of the nation to a few thousand people.

My generation didn't fail to join the rest of the world regarding healthcare as a human right when the leading cause of bankruptcy in the country is medical bills.

My generation didn't ever have the luxury of being able to get the education needed in the 21st century without a ****ing mortgage payment in student loans.

My generation didn't turn to shills and hucksters handing over the law making apparatus and governing abilities to the ****ing corporations.

But please, go on about how it's my generation that is so entitled for wanting the "American Dream" that "the greatest generation", the baby boomers, and the get rich quick generation X, pissed away.

Let's blame the people dealing with the consequences of the past for having to live in them, that makes sense right?

    Piss off.

Thank you for proving that you have no understanding of the pivotal point this nation is in.

By all means, if you think that a trillion dollar student loan bubble isn't going to collapse the economy in a way worse than we are still struggling to get out of enjoy life with your head in the sand.

Again, healthcare costs are the number one cause of bankruptcy in the country...but apparently that's not an issue to you.

The post just above mine has all the content placed within quote boxes, and upon further examination I see that he put his comments in red type within your quote instead of leaving your quote alone and responding to it in the post.

I can only hope that with practice he'll figure it out.

So what? The old system caused America to waste 10% of GDP. That's hugely inefficient.

It's effectively an extra 10% on your tax bill.

Yup, because the older generations never have the balls to admit to how they've ****ed everyone with their stupid policies and votes. It's easier to pass the buck than admit that their generation's decisions have destroyed our economy.
