    From Glenn Simpson's House testimony:

In testimony to the House Intelligence Committee made public Thursday, Glenn Simpson alleged that the Russians made a concerted effort to “get in with” the National Rifle Association, and seems to have succeeded.

"It appears the Russians, you know, infiltrated the NRA," he said. "And there is more than one explanation for why."

“It appears that the Russian operation was designed to infiltrate conservative organizations,” he said in the November interview. “And they targeted various conservative organizations, religious and otherwise, and they seem to have made a very concerted effort to get in with the NRA.”

Simpson mentioned Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is also known to be close to Russian President Vladmir Putin.

Damn, who’d have thought the Russians were 2A proponents?
Grasping at straws would be an understatement.

But Trump has repeatedly said that there was no collusion. And he's such an honest guy. ;)

    No collusion with him.
The NRA is not part of the government and there’s no evidence he’s not an honest person.
My post was sarcasm, I don’t believe for a second that the Russian government cares about Americans being able to exercise their second amendment rights.

Someone tell that to the NRA. All of those campaign donations seem to imbed them with the government.

Depth Of Russian Politician's Cultivation Of NRA Ties Revealed
    https://www.npr.org/2018/03/01/5900...-politicians-cultivation-of-nra-ties-revealed (Reported March 1)

A prominent Kremlin-linked Russian politician has methodically cultivated ties with leaders of the National Rifle Association and documented efforts in real time over six years to leverage those connections and gain deeper access into American politics, NPR has learned.

Russian politician Alexander Torshin said his ties to the NRA provided him access to Donald Trump — and the opportunity to serve as a foreign election observer in the United States during the 2012 election.

Torshin is a prolific Twitter user, logging nearly 150,000 tweets, mostly in Russian, since his account was created in 2011. Previously obscured by language and sheer volume of tweets, Torshin has written numerous times about his connections with the NRA, of which he is a known paid lifetime member. NPR has translated a selection of those posts that document Torshin's relationship to the group.

These revelations come amid news that the FBI is investigating whether Torshin, the deputy governor of the Bank of Russia, illegally funneled money to the NRA to assist the Trump campaign in 2016, McClatchy reported in January.

In a letter to Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., a member of the Senate intelligence committee, the NRA denied any wrongdoing and suggested the FBI is investigating Torshin, not the NRA. Neither the NRA nor Torshin responded to inquiries from NPR.

Investigations by Congress and the Department of Justice have revealed that the Russian government has sought to sharpen political divisions among American citizens by amplifying controversial social issues. Investigators have expressed concern about Russian links to the NRA, one of the most politically polarizing organizations in the U

Exactly! People repeat the same old rubbish without a clue. The NRA is influential but largely not from their donations. People bagging on the NRA ought to inform themselves.

I think the Russians have probably overreached and were absolutely desperate for Trump to win.

That said bringing every conservative institution into disrepute could be a deliberate move to create conflict and make it harder to bridge the liberal-conservative divide. The risk of course is that when ordinary Americans realise this is going on (which they will eventually) it’ll be even harder for the conservative movement to recover. Especially when the two sides are as evenly balanced as they are you don’t need much movement to make things very hard.

Oh, they're FINALLY reporting this are they? It's been all over Twitter for months, with links to evidence. MSM journalists need to pull their heads out of their arses and realise that other people have already done the joining the dots for them.

They probably figured that if they succeeded they could have a friendly government in the US under Trump with complete Republican control, and if hey failed then the conservative movement would be so destroyed that they could not recover and the US would go to one party rule which is never a good thing. So either way they would strike a damaging blow.

Assuming fairly complete collapse the Clinton wing and the Sanders wing will split into two parties.
