It's a week to go, and Brexit is seemingly in a strong lead, yet I fear that we will sheepishly shy away from voting for our freedom from the shackles of the EU.

It will be amazing if we break free from our slavery to the corrupt monstrosity that is the European Union, and remember, once again, that we are Brits that shall never, never be slaves.

You Yanks—and I mean that in a friendly way—hold freedom dear to your hearts. May we, your former colonial masters, take a leaf out of your book and follow your good example. Here's to an independent Britain and Freedom!

Don't do it! If you do that it will encourage Scotland to break away and maybe n. Ireland. Then there will be no more UK. And I like the Union Jack.

I like the Union Jack, too. However, I don't think Scotland will break away. They would be too weak on their own.

We have the fifth largest economy in the world. More importantly, we are the most outstanding country to have ever graced God's good earth, though an honourable mention should go to Germany, Italy and France, who created the greatest art and music in the history of the world.

Maybe when your stupid patriotism will stop for once.

Anyone saying that their country is the "best ever that God created" is just brainwashed, in both the political and religious sense. I was raised in Canada and even though I like it I sure as hell don't think this is "the best country that has graced God's good Earth".

Nationalism is good. Pride is good. It spurs competition, and that's good. People try to excel and that's all good. Don't ever let a loser tell you to dishonor your own country.

Canada, of course. His reply was quite clear.

Canada is a beautiful country with friendly natives, in my experience. But if you don't consider it the greatest country, I will not dispute your position.

I never said anything to dishonour his country. Like I said, I love my own country, but I won't try to convince everyone that it's the best and that it is perfect. In fact, it has quite a few things I don't like. Saying that "we are the most outstanding country to have ever graced God's good earth" is downright patriotism. It's lame.

We have an economy which is stretched to breaking point which is the remains of a huge fortune extracted at gunpoint from India, China, and countless African colonies whose resources we plundered and whose people we massacred and enslaved, and whose borders we invented for administrative convenience - which has led us in large measure into the global mess we inhabit now. Of course, Germany, Italy and France (and Holland and Spain and Portugal) are responsible for a good part of the mess too, but we surely take the cake. Well done us!

Your British Exceptionalism is appalling in its arrogance.

Oh, sorry, that was a typo. I meant ignorance, not arrogance.

Are you saying Americans should be ashamed of the U.S.A. rather than be proud of it? Not sure that's a popular view. ;)

But I guess you're citing Hitler or other atheist dictatorships. In those cases, yes, nationalism can be a force for evil, but the crucial ingredient is Godlessness or the worship of Satan.
