The Rev. Jim Wallis, president of Sojourners, a network of progressive Christians, says Beck perverted Jesus' message when he urged Christians last week to leave churches that preach social and economic justice.

Wallis says Beck compared those churches to Communists and Nazis.

Any church that does not actively support the Republican party and the desire to end abortions above any other issue, including caring for the poor, sick and needy, is a communist - librul abomination to God!

On a side note, you said Beck and perverted in the same sentence. ;)

Oh man, Beck has stepped in it now. I was wondering how long before some dumb neocon did this. OK, this is your wake-up call moderate Christians. It's not just us atheists, abortionists and homos they're going after. Now it's you too. Time to speak up- and loudly.

I have been. I've gone up to my priest after a Mass and let him have it for spouting off Republican talking points. I hope the larger segment of Christians in this country finally realize how they've been taken advantage of.

There's a whole side of this story that needs telling and not from those pushing the new revised meaning of "social justice" to be sure! On his show, Glenn Beck was referring to "economic justice" being used as code for nazism and communism, along the lines of what Jeremiah Wright preaches, well outside the Christian framework as euphemism for their real progressive intention: redistribution of wealth. Apparently this Rev. Jim Wallis is yet another proponent! Those are no Christian values to be sure and certainly not what Jesus Christ stood for in any critical analysis. As usual the liberals are cutting bait here with a clear misunderstanding of Glenn Beck's comments and spreading some castigation of his meaning as political traction to smear. The traditional interpretation of social justice when strictly defined as good Christian charity is something else entirely and a longtome Christian attribute. But this new social engineering being pushed by alleged "progressive Christians" (a misnomer) as a redistribution of wealth is not in any way Christ's message and Beck is right to call them on it. Traditional Christians (read not progressive) fully understand Glenn Beck's point here...

Sounds like you're describing evil Christians rather than traditional Christians. This is another example of just how disgusting Beck is.

There are no "christian values". Something on the order of a billion people seriously call themselves "Christians", there is so much diversity and divergence within christianity that "Christian values" is meaningless. Even two worshippers sitting next to each other in the pew follow their own interpretation of what it means to be a true believer.

    No one owns the truth

Personally, I'm glad Beck did this. Now we have seen his true colors in no uncertain terms.

The man is preaching a puritan, extremist utopia. If he wants to compare everyone to Hitler he best look in the mirror first ;)

If "progressive" (when did this term pop up in the media and why is it used pejoratively?) churches are preaching wealth distribution, perhaps its about time as the scales have been tipped far too much the other way in recent years. Even the likes of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have said so.

The self-centered style of Christianity resonates with his listeners. They hate Christians like the guy who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance.

True enough. Every one of them was borrowed from other religions and philosophies.
