Ex PC user needs Help with Boot Camp

Hi fellas, I am new to mac and really digging it. I have been reading up on installing windows on and external drive. I am a little confused but essentially what I woulld like to do is use my current hardrive that has all my data including windows on it in and external exclosure and boot to when needed or use parrells.

Is this possible, any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to do it with my wifes machine, I got a 20" imac and my wife has a macbook.
