I don't use my MBP super often, but I do use it once every week or two, when I really want to sit down and enjoy an Apple product at its finest. Clean desk, relaxing environment only. My uses are as basic as they come, I just like the 15" form factor. Computer is immaculate - has literally never so much as had a spot of spit on the screen. It has only been taken out of the house two or three times. It may as well be a family heirloom the way I treat it.

I bought this brand new from Microcenter last November, and it was one of the very last mid-2015 15" models off the line. Computer was manufactured on July 2nd, 2018, right at the very end of production. I've had no problems. Battery is minty fresh with a mere 13 cycles on it, just from me unplugging it periodically at my desk and giving the battery some use to keep it good. Battery health is 100%.

I had wanted to replace my mid-2010 for years, but the butterfly keyboards kept me away and I kept waiting. With no end in sight, and at the very least getting tired of not having a retina screen, I caved in and bought this machine as a stopgap until Apple sorts it out. I'm glad I did, because I love this machine to death and was so ready to move on from the 2010.

But now we are on the verge of the 16", and serious hints of a keyboard that might actually work. In other words, time for me to play ball and get the machine I really want after waiting a decade. But geez, I sit here on this 2015 and it's just that damn good. It's so good in fact, that it's the base model and I have no complaints with that, despite the fact the last two MBPs I had prior were maxed out BTOs costing north of $3k.

It would almost feel like a complete waste to sell this, it still feels brand freakin new, because, well, it pretty much is.

Totally feel where you're coming from.

It makes me really wish they'd done a "MacBook Pro SE" with the 2015 chassis, but with some upgraded specs, just "one more time" to bring it into the future in terms of power/connectivity and give it a solid 5+ more years of true true super usefulness and relevance.

The 2015's were the best laptops Apple has ever made (so far)

In many ways the 2015 represents the pinnacle of modern Apple laptops. Beautiful design and no compromises or questionable design choices (well... mostly). The 2012 retina MBP was just a great starting point and the later iterations brought refinement. I think it's up there with the 12 inch MacBook and the TiBook.

I have a local 2015 2.8 1 TB for sale for $1,200 including AppleCare until December 2019. I would buy it right now if it had AMD Discrete Graphics. I would sell my 2014 after buying this. I am camped out looking for a used 2015 2.8 AMD (storage doesn't really matter). These are great machines. If Apple does a 16, I'll look at it but it better have real keys in the touchbar and legacy ports like the other Macs.

I'd keep shopping a 2015 if I were you. I don't think the legacy ports are coming back and I'll be surprised if anything is back up top save for a real Escape key alongside a slightly shorter TouchBar.

I'm really curious what the new scissor keyboard on the 16" will be like (guessing more similar in key size and feel to the butterfly than the 2008-2015 boards) and I'm excited for the next gen of the MBP in 2020.

I haven't spec'd out a machine I really wanted since October 2008 with my original unibody. That machine was amazing, top spec BTO, but was replaced in 2010 by Applecare, and I just never loved that one the same - Apple wouldn't let me pay the difference to load that one up for some reason. Then I of course bought this 2015, and all Apple offered new for this model after 2015 was this base model.

I can't wait to spec out a new one again, it's been over ten years. Then again this 2015 has taught me I can be equally as happy with a base model as with an overkill $3k+ model...but I would like to get a computer for the next ten years, so 32GB and 1 TB? I guess we will see.

Like others though, I'm wondering if this 16" will end up being sort of a one off in between stopgap between the current gen and the next one. Regardless, to me this 16" is still going to require an extensive reworking to produce, so iterative as it may appear on the outside, I bet the inside is completely different.

I have a local 2.2 at $650. I'm not interested but I see prices coming down. There was a 2.8/1TB/Applecare asking $1,500 a month ago. Asking $1,200 right now. There's a 2.8/512/AMD in NYC for $1,200 but I'm not driving down there just for a laptop.
