iPod touch Export Contacts

how can one export outlook contact information to their i-touch without having to purchase additional software. IO am needing some directions.
 
If you are on a Windows system, can you not change in your iPod's sync settings to sync contacts with Outlook? If you're on a Mac, and converting from Outlook on a PC you'll more than likely have to find a way using the Import/Export wizard to get vCards which can then be brought into Address Book and then from there to the iPod touch via iTunes syncing.
