Ok folks, I'm a long-time Mac user, but I have never taken the iPhone plunge. Looks like it finally makes sense, so I'm waiting for the new iPhone to make its debut. Wanted to poll the mob though and see what the consensus was on current iPhone owners and their purchasing of extended AppleCare.

    Thanks!

I purchase AppleCare... better safe than sorry. One thing to note is that if you frequently travel overseas, the applecare warranty for iPhones are limited to the country where you bought the phone.

It isn't the same for computers where the warranty is international.

    Welcome to 2007! O.0

anyways, i have never bought apple care for any iphones since 2007,but thats me and i know I'm not clumbsy to drop it or water damage it.

    However, accident does happen tho.

    So applecare plus maybe?

you need to add....."i was glad i bought it, but never used it"....it just gives me peace of mind. Also, on the same note. Best buy offers insurance for $9 a month with unlimited replacements.

One more thing I forgot to mention... I'm from Hong Kong and it is an incredibly humid climate. One time I brought my iPhone out of an air-conditioned room to the toilet to play games while doing things that people do every day.

My iPhone started fogging up and there were water droplets forming on the screen and tiny droplets forming in the dock connector. My iPhone survived that ordeal.

I bring up the humidity issue because AppleCare does not guard you against humidity damage. It was a pretty big deal in Hong Kong when the 3gs and 4 came out because a lot of people broke the water sensor, not on purpose, but from the weather of Hong Kong.

Something to think about if you live in a sub-tropical climate or might travel to one some day.

I had an iPhone 4 and now 4S and haven't needed AppleCare for either one of them. If we had AppleCare+ in Ireland then I would have gotten that.

I just saw this. Hah! Thanks. I've had Mac laptops, iPods, and iMacs for 12+ years now, but I've just been content having "dumbphones." :D

applecare+ would cover that though....i don't know if that is what you meant, or just that regular applecare willl not cover that.

Is AppleCare+ even available anywhere outside of the US?

I meant regular AppleCare won't cover humidity damage. I checked the Hong Kong apple store (website) and they don't offer AppleCare+

Is this a feature of a particular Visa card? And does extends the exact terms of the product warranty or is it a separate one?

it will extend the exact same coverage provided by your original warranty. The best way to see if you visa card has this attached to it is to enter your card information here...if it works then your card is applicable

    ----------

also another reason to buy an insurance that is month to month and not all up front :). The best buys where i live do really well.

That's my general line of thought, but it will be the better part of another $200 then for my New iPhone and my wife's 4S.

Follow up: I checked my CapitalOne Visa, and indeed it does have the additional warranty coverage. Definitely worth considering. Thanks again!
