Hey,

I have a Macbook Air with a USB-C to HDMI cable that is connected to an external monitor. My external monitor has been switching on and off randomly for some time but lately, it does not even turn on.

Is it the HDMI to USB-C cable that needs to be changed or what can the issue be? My battery mode is set to never shut off monitor in mac settings.

Are you actually using an external display, while running the MBAir on battery -- maybe in clamshell mode (lid closed, with external display, external keyboard and mouse)
Neither would be recommended while running on battery-only.

I think that setting "Turn display off after..." is only for the internal display (and, you wouldn't be using an external display on battery, anyway - - correct?

But, yes, try a different USB-C to HDMI cable.

using external display while running on MBA air on battery yes.

Are you using the external as the only display - with lid closed?
Or as an additional display, and you continue to use the built-in display at the same time?

Again, using an external on battery will work, but is not recommended.
Use while plugged in to your power adapter/charger.
You may find that the external display works better then.
