With such a high prison population you'd think our Government would get smart and make them work the fields for reduced sentences. Worked with license plates.

Perhaps a bad optics is what's needed to prompt reform in the system so blacks aren't disproportionately incarcerated.

Isn't that the point of the 13th though? Why would it be bad optics?

Not really, so says an University of California agriculture economist.
    https://www.nytimes.com/roomfordeba...sts-and-benefits-of-a-raise-for-field-workers

For a typical household, a 40 percent increase in farm labor costs translates into a 3.6 percent increase in retail prices. If farm wages rose 40 percent, and this wage increase were passed on to consumers, average spending on fresh fruits and vegetables would rise about $15 a year, the cost of two movie tickets. However, for a typical seasonal farm worker, a 40 percent wage increase could raise earnings from $10,000 for 1,000 hours of work to $14,000 — lifting the wage above the federal poverty line.

Probably cheaper to import from Mexico and Canada those fruits. This is all about trying to maintain fruit being produced in this country when ECON 101 says it's not feasible to do so. Farmers are the worst of the worst. They hire cheap labor and they get unbelievable subsidies from the tax payer. Makes me sick when they're the problem. Let market forces sort out the farms. Enforce the labor minimum wage laws and cancel ALL farm subsidies. Let the invisible hand sort it out.

These are the people who craft the laws. They had the white house and Congress within the past 8 years and did nothing.

Start paying workers properly for the work. Americans work worse and more dangerous jobs. Oil rigs is one example. Pay is good work is ****

$14,000 a year is a liveable wage? I know that is the Federal Poverty Line but that should probably be $25,000 not $14,000.

Doesn't matter, Feinstein already admits no legal person is willing to do the work for the wage provided. Economics 101 says the businesses rolling billions off the backs of taxpayers should pay more.

Republicans are pretty much a **** show right now, Democrats are typically more lockstep with coordinated talking points.

I think we can agree that neither Congress is working for the people.

Actually, they don't. A supermajority is when a party has 60 votes in the Senate. Right now, the Republicans only have 52 Senators.

The Democrats did have a supermajority for the first two years of Obama presidency.

    Not correct.

    http://wiredpen.com/resources/polit...l-guide-balance-of-power-congress-presidency/

the last time any party held all branches with a super majority was under Carter. NEVER under Obama.

    so lets see :

Under Bush we got a war and a faltering economy.

Under Obama we got health care and the rebuilding of that fallen economy.

Under trump we are getting screwed. Period.
