This will be interesting to see how the POTUS and POTUS elect respond.

White House will send Biden to the funeral, you'll see. Or Raul Castro will make noise and make Obama look bad.

Fifty-some years too late. Good that he got rid of Batista, but like most revolutions, evil and disaster followed. Che was his Madame Defarge.

I am curious how this will play with the warming of relations with Cuba under Obama, and the "america first" of Trump. As for Fidel himself, certainly an interesting figure of the 20th Century - some pluses, quite a few minuses - I'll let History judge that. I'd smoke a cigar if I did that...

    Good god.

Sad news as someone has died, good news for Cuba. Fidel was holding them back and not allowing trade with the US.

The Embargo was a complicated business. By many measures the US did a great disservice to Cuba and to itself vis-a-vis trade options to Cuba. Still, at this time, let an important, if controversial, man get laid to rest...

While I have never been a big fan of President Obama, I liked the move of opening up relations with Cuba. I hear Trump wants to close up that relation with Cuba. The more I hear about what Trump wants to do, the more I wonder why I voted for him? I don't think it would break my heart if the recount succeeded. :D (It won't though)

I think Fidel Castro being an obstinate Communist to the very end hurt the country. He should have seen what happened to China after Deng Xiaoping took over in 1979 and what happened to the Soviet Union in 1991 and started much-needed reforms to modernize the country. It could take decades to undo his legacy.

I disagree. send the marines there to kill the remaining of the commies, open the trade and travel and in like 2 years cuba will be paradise on earth. the cubans alone that fled to miami and are now 'rich' can take care of it no prob.

those in 'absolute' power only see what they want to see, and are surrounded by brown nosers that keep their way of live and thinking alive, rescuers of the ill fated 'revolution' were brain washed over decades all over latin america and any other country, unfortunately Venezuela's oil and free drug trade support abundantly had financed the castros over recent years.
Communist is communist no matter under what shade of socialism they disguise themselves.

Does it mean now these celebrity crybabies will move to Cuba instead of Canada? Better weather and that great healthcare system.

venezuela, brazil and argentina, all funded those bastards with billions of dollars over the last decades. tap is dry now as argentina got rid of theirs, brazil impeached theirs and venezuela can't even buy food these days. as I said this was a good year, and fidel dying is the cherry on the proverbial cake.

maybe this gives the cubans the courage to grab sticks, stones and a few knives to get rid of that filth once for all. ain't disarming the population great?

Drug money is still keeping them funded.
And Cubans in the isle are well brainwashed and controlled.
If the nephews of venezuela's officials expose the Cuban narc activities and the US takes action maybe something could happen.
If anything happens the real revolution will come in the form of an economical invasion when foreign investments start to compete and provide better paying jobs and the Cubans start to taste freedom and how other people live.

Ironically they will move to a trump hotel or will be served for their eccentric needs by a trump company.
